A total of 676 School children in the Volta Region alone
285 nursing mothers are also recorded to be in school
During the coronavirus and Lockdown, a total of 676 School children in the Volta Region alone have being impregnated. This period stretches from March to September 2020. This was revealed in a report presented by the Ghana Education Service (GES).
176 of these pregnant girls were in Primary School, 325 in the Junior High School(JHS), and 175 in the Senior High School (SHS).
Aside from these numbers, with JHS and SHS taking the lead, 285 nursing mothers are also recorded to be in school

Keta takes the leads with 92 pregnancies, followed closely by Hohoe with 86 and Ketu south with 82.
The Guide Coordinator of GES in the region, Mr. Gideon Tsawodzi made the data public at a meeting of the Volta Regional Child Protection Committee.
He made mention of late admission to school as the primary cause of this problem. He then describes the whole situation as endemic and something needs to be done about it.
Mr. Gideon Tsawodzi also named gaps in guidance and counseling also as a factor for this problem.
He also talked about communities being sexually promiscuous. The sexual rights of the girl child are not been protected.
Mrs. Millicent Dakah, The Regional Girls Officer of the GES, also said the numbers could be more. As school is not a session and some of the pupils have left their locality during the survey and also Some pregnancies could also be placed uncover by parents.
