However, Pablo Escobar was involved in constant battles with rival cartels domestically and abroad which led to massacres and the murders of police officers, judges, locals, and prominent politicians. Despite being involved in criminal activities, Pablo used his wealth for philanthropy.

Pablo Escobar developed some of Medellín’s poorest neighborhoods. He helped build roads, power lines, and soccer fields and also built housing complexes for the homeless. Pablo entered into politics, participating in and supporting the formation of the Liberal Party of Colombia.

Pablo Escobar successfully entered the Colombian Congress. His political ambitions were hindered by the Colombian and U.S. governments and they pushed for his arrest. Pablo handed himself over to authorities and was sentenced to five years imprisonment. Later, Pablo managed to escape and went into hiding before he was killed.

Pablo Escobar’s father Abel de Jesús Escobar Echeverri died at age 87 on 25 October 2001, in Antioquia, Colombia. The cause of his death is unknown. He was buried at Cemetario Jardins Montesacro, Itagüí, Municipio de Itagüí, Antioquia, Colombia. His son Pablo Escobar, 44, died on 2 December 1993, in Medellín, Antioquia, Colombia. Pablo was shot and killed while trying to escape from the roof. He was killed by Colombian National Police.
