Abigail Boyega was born in 1958 in Nigeria according to sources. As of 2023, she is 65 years old. Abigail is a Yoruba, a West African ethnic group that mainly inhabits parts of Nigeria, Benin, and Togo, just like her husband Samson Boyega. The couple are parents of three children:  Grace Boyega, Blessing Boyega, and John Boyega. John is the youngest of the family.

John Boyega’s mother is a carer

Abigail Boyega is a caregiver while her husband Samson is a Pentecostal minister. The two lovers have been married for more than 35 years. “My mom and dad will always be my heroes, because at the end of the day, man, they made the fundamental choice moving from Nigeria, coming over to London,” Boyega says. “If they didn’t make that choice, I don’t think any of us would be here.”

The Woman King actor confessed he has yet to find a partner and is keen to find his life-long ‘companion’ like his parents have. John Boyega is not looking for just any partner but a Christian girl.

‘My mum and dad have been together for more than 25 years, so that’s the system to follow,’ he told Sorted magazine. ‘It’s nice to survive with your companion by your side. I’m sure it’s a good thing. But I’ve never experienced it. I do know, however, that she’s got to be a Christian.”- the actor said.

Abigail Boyega raised her son as a Christian

The star wars actor was raised a Christian and he is very proud of that. Talking about his upbringing the actor said– “I come from a family that has strong faith … You realise this life is fleeting and inner peace is the most important thing, and my path is definitely prayer and I meditate as well. Money and fame aren’t that powerful to me to change my personality.“

Abigail and her husband raised their children in Peckham, south London. “When I tell people where I was raised, they always go, ‘Oof, how was that?’ as if it was rough. I reckon I had a better childhood than most people who were raised in amazing environments. It was happy and active – playing on the estate, climbing trees, going to theatre clubs. There was so much community, so much to get involved in.“- The actor revealed.

On his left arm, starting from his shoulder, John Boyega has a tattoo of Africa, as both his parents are from Nigeria and immigrated to London in the 1980s. Below the Africa tattoo, the actor also has a tattoo of his parents’ faces above his wrist. Back in 2020, the Woman King actor tweeted about his parents’ reaction to his tattoos.

According to People, the tattoo was a “secret.” After getting to know about the tattoo, Abigail Boyega just like most African mothers could hide her surprise and asked if he was trying to emulate David Beckham, who’s known for having over 60 tattoos.

The mother and son duo are very close. Hollywood actor John Boyega shared a photo of himself with his mum, Abigail Boyega, and we’re all googly-eyed over it. The two have their arms wrapped around each other, John sharing it with the caption:  mummy

The actor shared an emotional video with his followers about the moment he surprised his supportive parents with a home of their own in a throwback vlog from 2017. John Boyega lured his parents to a London location under the guise of an interview, the actor thanked his mum- Abigail Boyega, and dad- Samson Boyega for their support over the years as he pursued his acting career. The parents couldn’t control their emotions in the emotional video.
