Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán’s brother Aureliano Guzmán Loera is the son of María Consuelo Loera Pérez and Emilio Guzmán Bustillos but his date of birth is uncertain. He may have been born on either July 20, 1945, October 20, 1946, or June 16 of an unknown year. He is suspected to have been born in La Tuna, Badiraguato Municipality, Sinaloa, Mexico just like his brother Joaquín. His family also lived at La Tuna for many generations.
Aureliano Guzmán Loera has other siblings in addition to his brother El Chapo. His other siblings are Joaquín Guzmán, Miguel Ángel Guzmán Loera, Arturo Guzmán Loera (died on 31 December 2004), Bernarda Guzmán Loera, Ovidio Guzmán Loera, Armida Guzmán Loera, and Emilio Guzmán Loera. He has other brothers who reportedly died of natural causes.
Aureliano is the grandchild of Juan Guzmán and Otilia Bustillos, from his father’s side, and Ovidio Loera Cobret and Pomposa Pérez Uriarte, from his mother’s side. Aureliano’s father Emilio Guzmán Bustillos was a cattle rancher and he might also have been a gomero, an opium poppy farmer. Emilio regularly beat his children. He had drinking problems and was a womanizer.
Emilio takes his son El Chapo with him to sell marijuana at commercial centers. Emilio would squander most of the profits on liquor and women and comes back home with no money. It is assumed that Aureliano Guzmán Loera did not enjoy a luxurious lifestyle during his childhood due to his family’s poverty. He was born into a poor family.

Aureliano Guzmán Loera is in charge of an important fraction of the Sinaloa cartel. After his brother “El Chapo” was arrested for the first time, Aureliano managed to grow and earn a name within the organization. El Guano, who frequently gets involved in family disputes, is suspected of orchestrating the murder of his half-brother Ernesto Guzmán. He accused Ernesto of leaking information that led to the second capture of “El Chapo.”
What Happened To Aureliano Guzmán Loera?
Aureliano Guzmán Loera, also known as ‘El Guano’ got himself on the wrong side of the law. There was an operation carried out by the armed forces in the community of El Durazno, to arrest Aureliano Guzmán Loera. At least 200 soldiers, up to eight helicopters, and a significant number of units were used in the operation.
Some clashes are said to have happened between armed men and the military because of the search for Aureliano Guzmán Loera, who was operating in the region. On November 13, 2019, a federal grand jury in the District of Arizona returned a Superseding Indictment against Aureliano.
Aureliano was charged with 4 counts related to an international conspiracy to distribute heroin, cocaine, and fentanyl, in violation of federal law. On February 19, 2020, a federal grand jury in the District of Arizona returned a separate Superseding Indictment against Aureliano, charging him with an additional two counts related to the international distribution of marijuana, heroin, cocaine, and methamphetamine.
The U.S. Department of State decided to offer a Reward Of Up To $5 Million for ‘information leading to the arrest and/or conviction of Aureliano Guzmán-Loera.’ Aureliano is a high-ranking member of the Sinaloa Cartel. Under the umbrella of the Sinaloa Cartel, his drug trafficking organization (DTO) controls drug smuggling routes from Sinaloa, Mexico, through Sonora, Mexico, and into the United States.
Aureliano’s organization is responsible for growing, cultivating, producing, manufacturing, and transporting poppy, marijuana, heroin, fentanyl, methamphetamine, and cocaine on behalf of the Sinaloa Cartel. Its main source of income is from the ‘significant cultivation of marijuana and poppy fields in the Sierra Madre Mountain Range of Sinaloa, Mexico.’

Aureliano’s organization is also based out of La Tuna, Badiraguato, Sinaloa, Mexico. It operates drug grow operations and drug production facilities throughout locations within what is called Mexico’s “Golden Triangle” which is known for Sinaloa Cartel-sanctioned, large-scale commercial drug cultivation operations. Aureliano earned his nickname ‘El Guano’ for being one of the alleged leaders of a part of the arm of the Sinaloa Cartel that is identified as “Los Guanos”.
