Who are Bob Barker’s Children?

Retired television game show host Bob Barker is no stranger to the spotlight. Bob was married to his high school sweetheart, Dorothy Jo Gideon for many decades till death do them part. It was somewhere in the 1930s that Bob Barker and his wife Dorothy Jo Gideon met at an Ella Fitzgerald concert. While attending high school in Missouri, Bob, 15 at the time started a romantic relationship with Dorothy. The duo went on several dates.

After dating for a while, the pair are said to have eloped. Bob proposed to his sweetheart Dorothy Jo Gideon and she accepted. They were scheduled to get married and their wedding happened on January 12, 1945, in a beautiful ceremony. The love birds enjoyed being together and had a blissful married life.

Dorothy Jo Gideon was singing in commercials and appeared as herself on TV series such as It’s Your Bet, Dinah! and Tattletales. She was an animal rights activist. Bob Barker used to work in a radio station. The couple moved from Springfield to Lake Worth Beach, Florida. Bob became a news editor and announcer.

Barker and his soulmate Dorothy Jo Gideon were married for 36 years, almost four decades. There was no sign of issues or divorce between the couple and they appeared very content with their marriage. They were married until death decided to intervene and cut their union short.

Why didn’t Bob Barker have any Children?

Speaking of Bob’s children, Bob Barker has no children. He and his wife never became parents and he has no regrets about not having kids. “We didn’t have time for children. I don’t regret it, not when so many of my friends are having so much trouble with their children,” he made this known in an interview. “I have thirteen ducks, and that’s a lot of work.”

Dorothy Jo Gideon’s death on October 19, 1981, in Los Angeles, California, USA, of lung cancer, ended their marriage. Dorothy died at age 57. Her death affected Bob Barker’s life as he felt alone. Inspired by his wife Dorothy, Bob became an advocate for animal rights and animal rights activism.

Bob Barker has since worked with countless animal efforts and has a foundation, the DJ & T Foundation. He has continued to work with animals as a passion and as a way to honor his late wife. Bob has not remarried since his wife’s death. On the 36th anniversary of his wife’s death, he visited her gravesite.

At Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Hollywood Hills, Los Angeles County, California, USA, Bob Barker was spotted with a bouquet as he paid tribute to his late wife. He was also seen cleaning the headstone of his beloved Dorothy Jo Gideon. This act proves that Bob misses his life with his wife.

However, Bob Barker was rumored to have been in a relationship with Dian Parkinson, a former model, and actress. They are said to have had a three-year affair. In 1994, Dian filed a lawsuit against Bob, alleging sexual harassment. She claimed that she was extorted by threats of firing.

Later, Dian Parkinson decided to drop her lawsuit, claiming the stress from the ordeal was damaging her health. Bob Barker is also said to be in a relationship with Nancy Burnet. Nancy is the president of the nonprofit organization United Activists for Animal Rights, founded in 1987.

It has been revealed that Bob Barker and Nancy Burnet first met at an animal adoption event that he hosted with actor Earl Holliman on March 27, 1983. The two have kept their relationship private and away from the spotlight.

Bob Barker was born in Darrington, Washington, U.S., and spent most of his youth on the Rosebud Indian Reservation in South Dakota, where his mother was a schoolteacher. His family eventually moved to Springfield, Missouri. He was born on December 12, 1923, to Matilda Kent Tarleton and Byron John Barker.

Barker’s mother was a school teacher while his father was the foreman on the electrical high line through the state of Washington. He has a half-brother called Kent Valandra, born from his mother’s marriage to his stepfather Louis Valandra.

Barker has been successful in his career. He is known for hosting CBS’s The Price Is Right from 1972 to 2007, making it the longest-running daytime game show in North American television history. He is also known for hosting Truth or Consequences from 1956 to 1975.

For his work, Bob Barker has been awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He was inducted into the Hall of Famous Missourians (2007), the NAB Broadcasting Hall of Fame (2008), and the television Hall of Fame (class of 2004). He has several fans and followers around the world.

Barker has survived a series of health problems over the years, including mild stroke, carotid endarterectomy, stroke, and skin cancer. He has done prostate surgery and has suffered from back pains. He was rushed to the hospital, for severe back pain. Bob Barker was hospitalized, marking his second hospitalization in less than a month (19 November 2018).
