Who Was Freddie Mercury’s Father, Bomi Bulsara?
Bomi Bulsara was born on 14 December 1908, in Gujarat, India. He was the son of Givind Bulsara and Devkor Bulsara. He was from the Parsi community of western India and was one of eight brothers. He grew up in the small town of Bulsar, near now Mumbai, India. He and his brothers settled in Zanzibar. Bomi’s surname is derived from the town of Bulsar.
There isn’t much information about Bomi Bulsara’s life as a child. His educational details are unknown. He worked as a cashier. He worked with the British Government as the high court cashier. He married Jer Bulsara (1922–2016) and they had a son and a daughter. Their son Freddie Mercury was born Farrokh Bulsara on 5 September 1946, in Stone Town, Sultanate of Zanzibar.
Their daughter Kashmira Bulsara also known as Kashmira Cooke was born in 1952 in Zanzibar, Tanzania. Bomi and his family moved to Zanzibar so that he could continue his job as a cashier at the British Colonial Office. In 1964, due to safety reasons, the family fled to England from Zanzibar to run away from the 1964 Zanzibar Revolution, in which thousands of Arabs and Indians were killed.
As Parsis, Bomi Bulsara, and his family practised Zoroastrianism. He was a loving husband and father. He lived a very private life and very little information has been shared about his life. According to reports, Bomi wasn’t too happy with his son Freddie Mercury’s decision to work in the music industry however he was always supportive of his son.

What Happened To Freddie Mercury’s Father?
Bomi Bulsara died on 26 December 2003, at age 95, in Basford, Nottingham Unitary Authority, Nottinghamshire, England. There isn’t much information about his death. He was cremated. His son Freddie Mercury was diagnosed with AIDS but he kept it a secret. On 22 November 1991, Freddie prepared a public statement about his health to be released. The statement stated:

“Following the enormous conjecture in the press over the last two weeks, I wish to confirm that I have been tested HIV positive and have AIDS. I felt it correct to keep this information private to date to protect the privacy of those around me. However, the time has come now for my friends and fans around the world to know the truth and I hope that everyone will join with me, my doctors and all those worldwide in the fight against this terrible disease.”
“My privacy has always been very special to me and I am famous for my lack of interviews. Please understand this policy will continue.” Sadly, Freddie Mercury died from bronchial pneumonia resulting from AIDS on 24 November 1991, at age 45, in Kensington, London, England. In 1992, a concert in tribute to him was held at Wembley Stadium, in benefit of HIV/AIDS awareness. Bomi’s wife Jer Bulsara died on 13 November 2016, at age 94.
