His parents are Katherine Jackson and Joseph Walter “Joe” Jackson (July 26, 1928 – June 27, 2018). His mother Katherine who played clarinet and piano, had aspired to be a country-and-western performer, and worked part-time at Sears.
Katherine was a Jehovah’s Witness. She would become an author and the matriarch of the Jackson family of entertainers. Brandon’s father, Joe was a former boxer, a crane operator at US Steel, and played guitar with a local rhythm and blues band, the Falcons. He was later a talent manager and patriarch of the Jackson family of entertainers.

He is said to have died 8-24 hours after his birth as he and his twin Marlon David Jackson were several weeks premature. Brandon had respiratory failure.
Brandon David Jackson’s death affected his twin Marlon David Jackson. Marlon would consider his younger brother Michael Joseph Jackson as a substitute for his lost twin, Brandon. Growing up, Marlon was very close to Michael. After Michael died, Marlon said:

In 2011, Conrad Murray was convicted of involuntary manslaughter in Michael Jackson’s death for having inadvertently overdosed him with a powerful surgical anesthetic, propofol, which was being improperly used as a bedtime sleep agent. He served roughly two years out of his original four-year prison sentence.
The Jackson family released a statement following the death of Michael Jackson: “Our beloved son, brother, uncle and father of three children has gone so unexpectedly, in such a tragic way and much too soon. It leaves us, his family, speechless and devastated to a point, where communication with the outside world seems almost impossible at times.”
