Chase has a career that spans over five decades. He went from being a key cast member on the first season of “Saturday Night Live” to having his late-night talk show in 1993. He’s been in 101 films and television shows, written 14 productions, and produced a T.V. show and a documentary. Most famously, he portrayed Ty Webb in Caddyshack (1980), Clark W. Griswold in five National Lampoon’s Vacation films, including Vacation (1983), Christmas Vacation (1989), and the 2015 reboot.

Who was Chevy Chase’s mother?

Cathalene Parker Browning was born on May 15 1923 in San Diego, California, United States. She was the daughter of Miles Rutherford Browning and Cathalene Isabella (Parker) Crane. Her father Rear Admiral Miles Browning, served as Admiral Raymond A. Spruance’s Chief of Staff on the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise (CV-6) at the Battle of Midway in World War II.

According to Chevy Chase’s Wikipedia, his mother Cathalene Parker Browning was adopted as a child by her stepfather, Cornelius Vanderbilt Crane, heir to The Crane Company, and took the name Catherine Crane. Her mother, also named Cathalene, was an opera singer who performed several times at Carnegie Hall.

Cathalene Parker Browning was married to writer Edward Tinsley Chase. The couple tied the knot in 1941 in a beautiful wedding ceremony. A few years later the couple had their son in Lower Manhattan on October 8, 1943, as Cornelius Crane Chase. Chevy was named for his adoptive grandfather, Cornelius, while the nickname “Chevy” was bestowed by his grandmother.

Chevy Chase is a 14th-generation New Yorker and was listed in the Social Register at an early age. His mother’s ancestors arrived in Manhattan starting in 1624. Cathalene and Edward also had another son named Ned Jr. Cathalene’s second marriage was to John Walfred Cederquist in 1951. That marriage also produced two daughters and two sons. Her third marriage was with Lawrence Widdoes in 1976.

Chevy Chase was abused by his mother

In a 2007 biography, Chase stated that he was physically and psychologically abused as a child by his mother and stepfather, John Cederquist. Chevy never told anyone what was going on at home and he also never felt that he could tell his father, Edward. Chevy received the worst treatment of the five children.

I was afraid if Dad would face off against John Cederquist he would lose a fight. John Cederquist was a bigger, angrier, strong man. I also didn’t know I would be allowed to say anything.”- He said in the Book.

What happened to Chevy Chase’s mother?

Cathalene Parker Browning passed away on 1 January 2005 in New York, New York County, New York, United States of America. She was 81 years old at the time of her death. The cause of her death has not been made public by the family. Cathalene was laid to rest at Artists Cemetery in Woodstock, Ulster County, New York, USA.
