The Goldfinger actress retired from acting to bring up her family and later commented in a 1999 interview with Steve Swires of Starlog magazine, “A career is a career, but you’re a mother until you die“. She was 32 years old when she retired. Shirley Eaton’s husband passed away in 1994. He was 64 years old at the time of his sad passing. The cause of his death has not been revealed by the family. Shirley lived in France for several years until the death of her husband. In 1995 she returned to London.
The actress published his first autobiography in 1999 which she titled Golden Girl. Later, she released her second book (Golden Girl Shirley Eaton: Her Reflections) which is a picture book of all her film photos from throughout her career and the second book (Shirley Eaton, Bond’s Golden Girl; her own ART Gallery) is full of her paintings and sculptures made over a lifetime and, more recently, her art and photography.

She wrote on her website– “I’m very expressive, but I’m also a very private person. It is so hard to be private in the entertainment business. I’m really glad that I was famous and successful at the time I was because it was bad enough then in a profession which tended to eat you up and never give you any free time. But I think that the youngsters today have a really bad time from every angle.“
