In a 1999 interview with the New York Times, Danny was credited with reviving his father’s career following a series of financial and substance abuse struggles in the late ’70s. “I don’t just handle a career, I manage a legacy,” Danny Bennett told Billboard in 2011.

By 1986, Danny had negotiated a new deal for his father with his former label, Columbia, which had dropped the singer in 1971. He went on to introduce his father to newer artists like the Red Hot Chili Peppers getting his father’s career off the ground again.
As the manager, Danny Bennett was helped in the decision for his father to record MTV Unplugged: Tony Bennett and also in the marketing of his father’s 2011 album, Duets II, according to Billboard. Playing in the rhythm section alongside his younger brother Dae, Danny, and the band released their first album, Media Push, in 1974. Before their Album, in 1973, the band signed a record deal with Warner Bros.

Though the album was not successful, it helped Danny to get in touch with his business management skills. “I was always the business manager for the bands I was in,” he told the New York Times. The skill came in handy in some years later when Tony Bennett asked his son to take over the business affairs of his career.
At that time, the iconic singer had been struggling both personally and financially, owing $2 million in back taxes and the IRS was planning to seize his house. By 1990, Danny Bennett had managed to get his father’s IRS debt paid off. He took over his father’s career in 1979.
