He is the only son of Pentecostal pastors Mary Christine (née Perry) and Maurice Keith Hudson. He has two sisters, Angela Hudson, and Katy Perry. David Daniel Hudson has English, German, Irish, and Portuguese ancestry. Through his mother, he is a nephew of film director Frank Perry. His family moved around frequently as his parents set up churches. They settled in Santa Barbara. David was given a very strict upbringing in a devoted Christian home.
