Diane Wuornos is the mother of American serial killer Aileen Carol Pittman also known as Aileen Wuornos. Diane’s daughter Aileen is known because of the crimes she committed. She was a sex worker who killed and robbed seven of her male clients, claiming that she did it out of self-defense as those clients had either raped or attempted to rape her.

Who Is Aileen Wuornos’ Mother, Diane Wuornos?
Diane Wuornos was born on August 12, 1939, in Detroit, Michigan United States, to her parents Lauri Wuornos (28 January 1911- 12 March 1976) and Britta Wuornos (1 February 1917 – 7 July 1972). At the young age, of 14, Diane married 18-year-old Leo Pittman (1936–1969), on June 3, 1954. They became parents of two children. Their son Keith Wuornos was born on March 14, 1955.
Their daughter Aileen Carol Pittman was born on February 29, 1956. Diane Wuornos and Leo Dale Pittman’s marriage didn’t last long. After less than two years of marriage, Diane decided to file for a divorce from her then-husband Leo. It was two months before Aileen was born. Aileen didn’t ever meet her father. Leo was convicted of child molestation.
Leo Pittman was awarded life imprisonment for kidnapping and raping a 7-year-old girl. Leo who was diagnosed with schizophrenia, ended up killing himself by hanging in prison on January 30, 1969. Due to unknown reasons, Diane Wuornos chose to abandon her children. She left Keith and Aileen when they were still young. She left her children with her parents.
Diane Wuornos’ parents Lauri Wuornos and Britta Wuornos both had drinking problems. Lauri and Britta, both alcoholics opted to make their daughter Diane’s children, Keith and Aileen their own. Lauri and Britta legally adopted their grandchildren, Keith and Aileen on March 18, 1960. There isn’t much available about Diane’s life after this point.

However, Diane Wuornos is said to have married Dave Alvin Tuley, and they had children Kathi Lynn and Dave Alvin Tuley Jr. As for her daughter Aileen Wuornos, she claimed she was sexually assaulted and beaten up by her alcoholic grandfather. Her grandfather would force her to strip out of her clothes before giving her some beatings.
Aileen Wuornos was already trading sexual favors for drugs, cigarettes, and food, by the age of 11. She even went to the extent of engaging in sexual activities with her brother. Aileen was raped by a family friend and was pregnant at age 14, in 1970. She gave up her only child, a son for adoption. She gave birth to her son at a home for unwed mothers on March 23, 1971.
Aileen Wuornos ended up dropping out of school. Her grandmother died of liver failure and her grandfather eventually sacked her from the house. She started to live in the woods, fending for herself through prostitution. Her brother Keith Wuornos passed away due to esophageal cancer. Aileen got $10,000 from Keith’s life insurance but the money was gone in two months
Aileen Wuornos used the money within two months by buying luxuries including a car, which she wrecked shortly afterward. She also used some of the money to pay a fine of $105 for drunk driving. Aileen was often in trouble with the law. Her felonies and misdemeanors include assault, robbery, forgery, and illegal possession of a firearm.
Aileen Wuornos shot dead and robbed seven of her male clients. She told several inconsistent stories about the killings. She used other names including Sandra Kretsch, Susan Lynn Blahovec, Lee Blahovec, Cammie Marsh Greene, and Lori Kristine Grody. She has admitted to the killing. “I killed those men”, she wrote, “robbed them as cold as ice. And I’d do it again, too.
“There’s no chance in keeping me alive or anything, because I’d kill again. I have hate crawling through my system … I am so sick of hearing this ‘she’s crazy’ stuff. I’ve been evaluated so many times. I’m competent, sane, and I’m trying to tell the truth. I’m one who seriously hates human life and would kill again.”
Aileen Wuornos received six death sentences. During her career as a prostitute, she reportedly claimed to have had sex with 250,000 men.
Where Is Aileen Wuornos’ Mother Now?
Aileen Wuornos’ mother, Diane Wuornos is said to have passed away in 2002, at age 63. The cause of her death is liver failure, per findagrave. Her daughter Aileen was executed on October 9, 2002, by lethal injection after spending over 10 years on Florida’s death row. Her last words were:

She was cremated and her ashes were scattered beneath a tree in her native Michigan by her childhood friend Dawn Botkins.
Aileen Wuornos became the tenth woman in the U.S. to be executed since the re-introduction of the death penalty in 1976, and the second woman in Florida to be executed.
