Diezel Ky Braxton-Lewis was autistic. He was diagnosed with autism at a young age. His mother Toni Braxton revealed that Diezel’s autism was “God’s payback” to her as she once aborted a baby after discovering she was pregnant by then-boyfriend Keri Lewis. “In my heart, I believed I had taken a life — an action that I thought God might one day punish me for,” she wrote in her memoirs.
“My initial rage was quickly followed by another strong emotion: guilt. I knew I’d taken a life…I believed God’s payback was to give my son autism.” Toni had realized there was something wrong with Diezel as early as nine months but he wasn’t diagnosed with autism until he was three. “They dismissed me,” Toni said of the doctors. “I don’t know if it would have made a difference or not for him to be diagnosed earlier, but they had a ‘wait and see’ attitude.”
“It makes me so angry because a mother knows when something is wrong with her child.” In a 2006 concert at the Flamingo Las Vegas, Toni was in tears, discussing that Diezel had been diagnosed with autism. A source revealed: “She was dedicating ‘I Wanna Be (Your Baby)’ to her son, and then she said something about how people have warned her that she shouldn’t talk about it, but said that he was autistic, and then she started crying and rushed off stage. It was very emotional.”
Diezel’s condition inspired his mother Toni to become involved with Autism Speaks, serving as their International Spokesperson. Toni gave an update on Diezel’s autism. She revealed that her son no longer exhibits symptoms of autism. “My youngest son, as everyone knows, my son Diezel suffers from — or I should say suffered from autism. I am one of the lucky parents. Early diagnosis changes everything. I will tell you this. I will shout it from the rooftops.”

Diezel Ky Braxton-Lewis’ parents Keri Lewis and Toni Braxton are divorced. Keri and Toni who married on April 21, 2001, divorced in July 2013. Toni announced that she and Keri had separated in November 2009. “The couple has had an amicable split and will still both be actively involved in raising their two sons, 11-year-old Denim and 10-year-old Diezel,” Toni’s rep told Us Weekly.
During her Vh1 Behind the Music special in October 2012, Toni Braxton shared of her failed marriage: “I had to figure out a plan for my life that had nothing to do with him.
