Dorothy Jo Gideon and her future husband Bob Barker crossed paths at an Ella Fitzgerald concert in the 1930s. At the time, Bob was attending high school in Missouri. Although Bob was just 15 years old, he fell in love with Dorothy and they began a relationship.

They were seeing each other for a while before Bob proposed to her. Bob joined the United States Navy Reserve in 1943 during World War II to train as a fighter pilot but did not serve on active duty. Dorothy and Bob Barker got married on January 12, 1945, during Bob’s leave from the military.

She kicked the bucket on October 19, 1981, in Los Angeles, California, USA, and is buried at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Hollywood Hills, Los Angeles County, California, USA. She was at the age of 57 years. Bob suffered a devastating loss when Dorothy died.

Bob continues to honor her memory. In 2017, on the 36th anniversary of her death, Bob visited her headstone at the Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Los Angeles to pay his respects. He went to the gravesite with a beautiful bouquet and cleaned her headstone.
