Edward Sostek: Who is June Squibb’s ex-husband?

Edward Sostek gained popularity for being the ex-husband of famed actress June Squibb. Edward Sostek’s ex-wife spent most of her six-decade acting career in small supporting roles until she finally gained a breakthrough for her wonderful performance in the comedy-drama “Nebraska” (2013). Her performance in the comedy-drama gained her a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.

Edward Sostek was the first man Squibb married

June and Edward tied the knot on 20th May 1953 and called everything a quit in December 1959. They stayed married for only 6 years. The reason behind their divorce has not been made public. The famed actress has not spoken much about her ex-husband. They didn’t have any children before going their separate ways.

After her marriage with Edward Sostek came to an end, June later got married to Charles Kakatsakis who was an acting teacher and the couple was together until his death in 1999. June and Charles have one child together, a son named Harry Kakatsakis who is a filmmaker.

June Didn’t Act in Her First Film Until She Was In Her 60s

The talented actress spent the early years of her career focusing on theater work and making it to the big screen wasn’t something she really thought will come true. By the time June made her first movie appearance in 1990, June was already in her 60s. Since then, she had gone on to be in nearly three dozen movies.

Squibb’s role in the comedy-drama Nebraska turned out to be her career booster and one of her biggest opportunities, but she almost wasn’t chosen for it. Alexander Payne, who had worked with June in the past, initially felt that she was too sweet to play the character the way he’d envisioned. However, June recorded two audition tapes to show that she could portray the character in more than one way.

Aside from acting, Edward Sostek’s ex-wife had a backup career. Being an Actor was what brought her joy but she did try her hands on Modeling. June revealed, “My backup career was modelling. I did a lot of the print modeling and what they used to call industrial modeling at the big conventions. Luckily I didn’t have to do it very often.”

June has also made a few friends on his journey. June told The Guardian, “I’ve met Lupita [Nyong’o] and now we’re friends. She’s so sweet, a darling girl. I went up to her at a party and said: ‘I’m June Squibb and we’re in this together so I thought I should introduce myself.’”
