Erika Tureaud was reportedly a teacher. She taught children with Down syndrome and Autism until 2013. She later opted to pursue a stand-up comedy career. Her father Mr. T reportedly didn’t approve of Erika becoming a comedian.

Erika’s father Mr. T is an actor, bouncer, bodyguard, wrestler and TV personality. He was enlisted in the United States Army in 1975 and served in the Military Police Corps and was discharged. He later tried out for the Green Bay Packers of the National Football League but failed to make the team due to a knee injury.

Mr. T was a bouncer at the Rush Street club Dingbats Discotheque. He eventually parlayed his job as a bouncer into a career as a bodyguard that lasted almost ten years. He was contracted to guard, among others, clothes designers, models, judges, politicians, athletes, and millionaires.

Mr. T’s clients included celebrities such as Steve McQueen, Michael Jackson, LeVar Burton, and Diana Ross, and boxers such as Muhammad Ali, Joe Frazier, and Leon Spinks. He has been involved in numerous commercials, including for Snickers, World of Warcraft, MCI, Comcast, and RadioShack.
