Michael Jackson’s pet, Bubbles, has a very different life from other chimps.

Bubbles and Michael become close acquaintances and playmates.

Michael Jackson’s favorite pet chimpanzee, “Bubbles”, was named after the King of Pop, the first son who may have looked like two best friends. Apparently, The Bubbles lived in Encino, Los Angeles, the Jackson family’s home before they were later pulled side by side with their beloved Neverland Ranch owners.

He slept in a cot in Jackson’s bedroom, used his own bathroom, finished his tickets, ate sweets at the Neverland theater, and ate at the dining table.

In one of his interviews, Jackson once said that chimps would help him around the house. “They were running around helping me clean the bed.” They helped me wipe and clean the windows.

During the Bad World Tour, chimps accompany the king of pop and drink tea with the mayor of Osaka, Japan.

However, behind the hilarious photos of Bubbles’ life with Jackson, hidden a disturbing truth.

Where is Bubbles now?

Over time, the chimp matured into a dominant adult male and was no longer safe living in such close proximity with humans, it was feared he might attack or threaten Michael Jackson’s children and was sent to an animal trainer before relocating to the Center for Great Apes in Wauchula, Florida – where Bubbles still lives to this day.

His showbiz lifestyle may feel like a distant memory, but by the looks of things he’s enjoying his retirement in the Sunshine State.

Now a 185lb, 4.5ft adult male, Bubbles lives with a group of other chimpanzees that include his best friend Ripley, adult females Oopsie, Boma, Jessie, and Kodua, and juvenile Stryker.

A bio on the sanctuary’s website says: “Bubbles does not like cameras. Even when his caregivers try to take a photo, he will turn his back if he sees a camera.

“He occasionally will spit water at people when annoyed about cameras and is able to throw sand with amazing accuracy.

“However, he is extremely gentle with the youngsters, especially Stryker. In fact, when Stryker was a baby, he could often be seen riding around on Bubbles’ back.”

The bio explains that Bubbles is believed to have been born in a biomedical laboratory in 1983, and was taken from his mother as an infant to be given to a Hollywood trainer, before being handed over to Jackson as a pet.

Bubble was sent to the Center for Great Apes, a shelter in Wauchula, Florida, when the coach’s office closed in 2004. He’s lived there since.

It is believed that shortly after performing the song, Bubbles attempted suicide after his master was accused of child abuse.

After the King of Pop was charged, “his favorite pet, the chimpanzee Bubbles, attempted suicide,” wrote The Times of India.

Facebook post in 2019 also debunked various rumors about Bubbles – including that he had once tried to kill himself – saying such comments were merely ‘wild conjectures or false gossip’.

It said: “Even though many media gossip sources have invented false stories about Bubbles, he is in good health, receives generous support from the Estate of Michael Jackson, and will remain away from those who would exploit him.”

Fortunately, Bubbles was rescued by medics in December of that year, although no further information about the incident was released.

Bubbles’ daily routine is much quieter and consists of drawing and listening to flute music.
