Ian Lansbury was born to his father Anthony Pullen Shaw and his mother, Lee Speer Webster. Ian’s father, Anthony, was an actor and director notable for his roles in films including A Bridge Too Far, The Spy Who Loved Me, and North Sea Hijack. Ian’s parents have been married since 1980. Ian’s Grandmother, Angela Lansbury was born Dame Angela Brigid Lansbury on 16 October 1925, in the district of St Pancras in central London. She was born to Irish actress Moyna Macgill and English politician Edgar Lansbury. She studied acting in New York City and continued to Hollywood in 1942.

Ian’s Grandmother is an American actress and singer who has appeared in several movies and has contributed to the entertainment industry as her work has received much international attention. She has a career that has spanned over 80 years, much of it in the United States.

Angela Lansbury appeared in 11 further MGM films taking minor roles and later enhancing her cinematic work with theatrical appearances. She was signed to MGM and played her first film roles, in Gaslight (1944) and The Picture of Dorian Gray (1945). She appeared in the film The Manchurian Candidate (1962) and played Edwina Brown, the older sister of Velvet Brown in National Velvet (1944).

She also starred in The Picture of Dorian Gray (1945) and played the leading role in the Broadway musical Mame (1966). She has made different theatrical and cinematic appearances including leading roles in the stage musicals Gypsy, Sweeney Todd, and The King and I, as well as in the hit Disney film Bedknobs and Broomsticks (1971).

Ian Lansbury’s Grandmother has appeared in The Hoodlum Saint (also 1946), Till the Clouds Roll By (1947), If Winter Comes (1947), Tenth Avenue Angel (1948), The Three Musketeers (1948), State of the Union (1948) and The Red Danube (1949). She was loaned by MGM first to United Artists for The Private Affairs of Bel Ami (1947), and then to Paramount for Samson and Delilah (1949).

For her hard work and talent, Angela Lansbury has been awarded on several occasions. She received an Honorary Academy Award and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the BAFTA. She has also won five Tony Awards, six Golden Globes, and an Olivier Award. She was made a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth II and has been the subject of three biographies.

Furthermore, Ian’s Grandmother has been married twice. She married actor Richard Cromwell, on September 27, 1945, when she was 19 years old and Cromwell was 35 years old. They separated in 1946. She married actor, and producer Peter Shaw in 1949 and they remained together for 54 years until his death in 2003. She had two kids, Anthony Peter and Deirdre Ann. She also has one stepson called David.

His grandmother died at the age of 96

Ian’s Grandmother passed away on Tuesday, October 11, 2022, at the age of 96. Broadway World has a statement from Lansbury’s family: “The children of Dame Angela Lansbury are sad to announce that their mother died peacefully in her sleep at home in Los Angeles at 1:30 AM today, Tuesday, October 11, 2022, just five days shy of her 97th birthday. In addition to her three children, Anthony, Deirdre, and David, she is survived by three grandchildren, Peter, Katherine, and Ian, plus five great-grandchildren and her brother, producer Edgar Lansbury. A private family ceremony will be held at a date to be determined.”
