Janet LaLanne is the late daughter of Elaine LaLanne. Janet’s mother Elaine is an American fitness and nutrition guru, author, and wife of Jack LaLanne. Jack was a pioneer, lifelong instructor, and living example of the physical fitness lifestyle. Janet LaLanne was born on 2 February 1952, in San Francisco, San Francisco County, California, United States. She was also known as Janet Doyle or Janet Elaine Doyle LaLanne. Joseph Doyle and Elaine LaLanne (née Doyle) are her biological parents. Her mother is a fitness expert and author. Her parents got divorced and her mother married Francois Henri LaLanne best known as Jack LaLanne who adopted Janet.

Janet LaLanne is the sister of Daniel ‘Dan’ LaLanne (Daniel Doyle). Dan, son of Elaine from her first marriage was also adopted by Jack LaLanne. Janet’s mother Elaine and stepfather Jack had a son Jon LaLanne. Jack had a daughter Yvonne LaLanne from his first marriage to Irma Navarre. Janet had a great relationship with her siblings. Her stepfather Jack treated her like his own child and she had a close and supportive relationship with him.

Janet LaLanne’s educational background and qualifications are unknown. She was reportedly in Michigan to work in summer stock productions at the Barn Theater in Augusta. Sadly, Janet’s life was cut short as she passed away in her early 20s. She was never married. It is unknown if she was ever involved in a romantic relationship or not.

She and Jack got married on September 24, 1959, in a beautiful wedding ceremony in front of their loved ones.

Both fitness experts, Elaine LaLanne and Jack LaLanne worked together. Elaine has stated that before she met Jack at the age of 27, she “never exercised” and had lived on a diet of “chocolate doughnuts, candy, soda, frankfurters, and ice cream for years”. Elaine is nicknamed the First Lady of Fitness and Jack is the “Godfather of Fitness”. Elaine supported her husband in his TV programs, speaking, and other public engagements.

“Jack got the ideas, I’d follow through,” Elaine LaLanne said. “We were a team, we did a lot of things together.” Jack LaLanne was the host of the first and longest-running nationally syndicated fitness television program, The Jack LaLanne Show, which aired from 1951 to 1985. Elaine was part of the show to demonstrate the exercises and to show that doing them would not ruin the figures or musculature of women.

How Did Elaine LaLanne’s Daughter Die?

Elaine LaLanne’s daughter and Jack LaLanne’s stepdaughter, Janet LaLanne was killed in a car accident. She died of injuries suffered in a car accident near the southwestern Lower Michigan community. According to the Police, Janet lost control of her car and was thrown from the vehicle as it rolled over several times. She died at a local hospital of chest and abdominal injuries, sources say.

Unfortunately, Janet LaLanne died at the age of 21 years on 24 May 1973, in Kalamazoo, Kalamazoo County, Michigan, USA, according to Findagrave. She was buried at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Hollywood Hills, Los Angeles County, California, USA. Her adopted father Jack LaLanne died of respiratory failure due to pneumonia at his home, on January 23, 2011. He died at age 96, in Morro Bay, California, U.S.

Jack LaLanne used to say, “I can never die; that would ruin my image!” His daughter Yvonne LaLanne said of her father: “He was surrounded by his family and passed very peacefully and in no distress … and with the football game on Sunday, so everything was normal”. According to his family, he had been sick for some time but decided not to see a doctor. He continued to perform his daily workout routine even the day before his death.

Elaine LaLanne, Jack’s wife of more than 50 years said in a statement on her husband’s death: “I have not only lost my husband and a great American icon, but the best friend and most loving partner anyone could ever hope for.” He is survived by his wife Elaine, daughter Yvonne LaLanne, sons Daniel LaLanne and Jon LaLanne, and other relatives. He was buried at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Hollywood Hills, Los Angeles County, California, United States.
