Janice Aldrin is the daughter of Buzz Aldrin. Janice Aldrin’s father Buzz Buzz is a former astronaut, engineer, and fighter pilot. As the pilot of the 1966 Gemini 12 mission, he performed three spacewalks. He and mission commander Neil Armstrong were the first two people to land on the Moon as the Lunar Module Eagle pilots on the 1969 Apollo 11 mission.

How did Janice Aldrin’s Parents meet?

Buzz Aldrin was an Air Force lieutenant when her mother Joan Archer met him in the early 1950s. There are no detailed accounts of how they met and started their love affair. However, they were married in 1954. Joan Archer found the first year of marriage difficult with her quirky pilot husband, who gave her an unruly monkey named PoPo II as a Christmas present and was in the air more than he was at home. “I was always alone,” she recalled to Lily Koppel who wrote in “The Astronaut Wives Club,” a 2013 book about the women who stood beside some of the most iconic figures of the past century.

When her father joined the space program in the early 1960s, her mother, Archer joined the circle of astronaut wives in Houston. The women met regularly, forming a sisterhood whose members supported one another through the thrills and perils of space flight.

They called their marriage a quit in 1974. This was after her father struggled with alcoholism, depression, and extramarital affairs. After the divorce, her father moved on and got married to Beverly Van Zile, two years after their marriage, they also called their marriage a quit. Buzz then moved on again with his life and got married to Lois Driggs Cannon.

Lois and Buzz were married for more than 2 decades before they also went their separate ways. His settlement to Lois included 50 percent of their $475,000 bank account, and $9,500 a month plus 30 percent of his annual income, estimated at more than $600,000 according to Aldrin’s Wikipedia.

The Family Legal Battles

The Blast reports that Aldrin has been going through another legal battle with his family as he sues two of his children- Andrew and Janice Aldrin, as well as a former business manager, for allegedly misusing his credit cards and transferring his money without his permission.

Aldrin, 88, claims that his son Andrew refuses to notify him about pending or future business transactions, removes large sums of money from his accounts, and continues to represent him financially and socially, despite the fact that Aldrin has repeatedly asked him to stop. He also claims that his daughter Janice Aldrin also used his credit cards without permission.

Andrew and Janice argue with the former business manager, Christina Korp, that Aldrin is mentally impaired through dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. Aldrin alleges that the three slandered him with those claims. Most recently, Aldrin’s attorney filed documents earlier this month requesting to withdraw from the case.

Attorney Steven Selz explained in court documents obtained by The Blast that “irreconcilable differences have arisen by and between” himself and Aldrin which make it impossible to continue to “adequately and proper represent the Plaintiff in this matter.”

The situation ended when Janice Aldrin and her brother Andre withdrew their petition and he dropped the lawsuit in March 2019, several months before the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission.
