Dick York is a radio, stage, film, and television actor. He was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana but grew up in Chicago. He was welcomed by his parents Bernard York and Betty York on September 4, 1928. His father Bernard York, worked as a salesman while his mother Betty York worked as a seamstress.
Dick York started his career at the age of 15. He was the star of the CBS radio program That Brewster Boy. He was cast as the first Darrin Stephens on the ABC fantasy sitcom Bewitched, with his best-known motion-picture role as teacher Bertram Cates in the film Inherit the Wind (1960).
Dick York had a serious back injury he sustained while working on the film They Came to Cordura in 1959 but that didn’t immediately end his career. He was seen in ABC comedy-drama Going My Way (1962) and was in the series, which lasted one season, as Tom Colwell, who operates a secular youth center.
Dick York was in the episodes of now-classic television series, including Justice, Alfred Hitchcock Presents, The Alfred Hitchcock Hour, The Untouchables, Rawhide, The Americans, Wagon Train, Father Knows Best, and CBS’s The Twilight Zone and Route 66.
Dick York’s final two film credits were on two primetime television series, Simon & Simon and Fantasy Island.

What Happened To Dick York?
Dick York often smoked cigarettes and he spent his final years battling emphysema. For Dick York to breathe, he was assisted by an oxygen tank in 1989.
Dick York died at age 63 on February 20, 1992. He died at Blodgett Hospital in East Grand Rapids, Michigan, and was buried at Plainfield Cemetery in Rockford, Michigan. His death was a result of complications from emphysema.
