Jonathan Berkery: Who Is Tom Jones’ Son?

Jonathan Berkery is a singer and the son of Welsh singer Sir Thomas Jones Woodward, popularly known as Tom Jones. Jonathan’s father Tom is one of the prominent singers in the music fraternity. Jonathan Berkery is the only child of his parents but he has a half-brother, Mark Woodward. His parents were never married. Tom Jones and Katherine Berkery had a brief relationship which resulted in the birth of their son Jonathan. Tom Jones denied that Jonathan was his son and has refused to acknowledge him.

Jonathan Berkery’s parents went through a legal battle and it included DNA testing. In the year 1989, a U.S. court ruled that Jonathan was actually Tom Jones’ son. Tom decided to deny the court’s findings until 2008 when he finally confessed that they were true.

Although Tom Jones admitted that Jonathan Berkery is his son, he still doesn’t want to have a relationship with Jonathan. Katherine Berkery received an amount of money a month in child support after she took Tom to court in 1989. Tom fulfilled his financial obligation but he refused to be a father to his son.

Jonathan Berkery said: “I was very angry. My anger boiled over in school – I fought every kid and rebelled constantly”. Jonathan ended up engaging in deviant behaviors as he grew up. He became a drug addict and a gun-carrying dealer.

Jonathan said: “In 2008 he finally gave an interview acknowledging me but said my mother had tricked him. It wasn’t true and it really hurt.

“I got into drugs – cocaine and ecstasy. I was trying to numb the pain.

“I used to fantasise about going to one of his concerts and disrupting it or anonymously auditioning for The Voice and giving him the finger when he swivelled round in his judge’s chair.

“But I’ve straightened myself out now and mellowed. I just want to see my father before it is too late.”

Jonathan Berkery slept on park benches or homeless shelters. At the dead end, he was taken to rehab and later gave up his addictions. He said: “It all stems back to my dad. I don’t think I realized it for a long time, but I was one angry kid, crying out for a father.” Jonathan claims he does not want his father’s money but his recognition.

Jonathan Berkery decided to follow in his father’s footsteps. He is a singer just like his dad. It has been alleged that he got his inspiration from his father Tom Jones to go into music. Jonathan’s music career hasn’t taken off yet. He reportedly sings for money on the streets of New Jersey. He is a struggling musician who is trying to find his way, unlike his father who has sold over 100 million records.

Jonathan’s Father Was Married

Jonathan Berkery’s father Tom Jones used to be married to his high school girlfriend, Melinda Rose “Linda” Trenchard. They were married from 2 March 1957 until she died of cancer on 10 April 2016. They were married at age 16 and became the parents of Mark Woodward.

At the time Melinda Trenchard was dying, she asked Tom Jones to sell the family’s Los Angeles mansion and its contents, except treasured photos, and moved into an apartment in London, which he did. Tom had different affairs and dated several famous American women. According to him, he has had sex with up to 250 groupies a year at his peak of fame.
