Both Klara and her ex-husband were immigrants to the U.S. who fled the Hungarian People’s Republic following the 1956 uprising. Apparently, Klara Barsi’s ex-husband Jozsef shot and killed his wife, Maria, and his daughter, Judith, doused the bodies with gasoline and set them on fire. A next-door neighbor revealed to Law enforcement that she was watering her garden when she heard an explosion and saw smoke rising from the Barsi home Wednesday morning.
“My first thought, as I ran in to call 911, was, ’He’s done it. He’s killed them and set a fire in the house, just like he said he would,“- She said. The neighbor also said Maria told her that her husband has become very abusive and threatening when he is drunk. She also said the woman was considering filing for divorce.

″She said, ’I can’t, because he’ll come after us and kill us, and he’s threatened to burn the house down,‴ Ms. Daly said after she advised her to move out. The neighbor Eunice Daly stated she heard a gunshot around 8:30 a.m. on July 27, 1988, prompting her to call the police.
The Los Angeles Times quoted Police Lt. Warren Knowles as saying a flammable liquid, likely gasoline, had been poured on the bodies of Maria and Judith by József. József’s body was found in the garage, dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The fire destroyed the interior of the house, in the 22100 block of Michale Street.
