Leif Naess’ Grandfather Died In A Climbing Accident
Leif Naess’ grandfather Arne Næss Jr. (Ross Naess’ father) took his last breath on the 13th of January 2004, at the age of 66 years. Unfortunately, he fell to his death in a climbing accident. He died while he was descending from a peak on Rupert’s estate in the Groot Drakenstein mountains near the town of Franschhoek outside Cape Town, South Africa.

Arne Næss Jr. is said to have been climbing on his own, without much protective gear, just ropes and a harness, when he apparently slipped and fell about 320 feet to his death. No foul play was suspected. Arne Næss Jr. was an experienced mountaineer who led a team of Norwegian climbers to the summit of Mount Everest in April 1985.
