Lorenzo gained much of her fame from his marriage to the famous actress. “I love Beverly because she sees life with the eyes of a child but lives it with the heart of a woman,” the Italian duke opened up to PEOPLE of the National Lampoon’s Vacation star in Nov. 1981.
The duke was a business student at the University of Southern California (USC) when he and D’Angelo first met. She told PEOPLE in an interview that Salviati’s cousin, Princess Claudia Ruspoli, first tried to give her the duke’s phone number at a party in Saint Tropez, France. But back in L.A., the actress remembered being at a party “and this gorgeous man walked in,” she recalled. It was Salviati.

Beverly D’Angelo and Lorenzo Salviati tied the knot in Las Vegas over Labor Day weekend in 1981. The love bird’s wedding started as a cruise off the coast of Los Angeles on a chartered yacht for the holiday weekend, but things went sideways when they accidentally filled the gas tank with water.
“Then there was a storm, and we got marooned between Catalina and Marina del Rey. It was a nightmare.“- the actress said. By the time they were rescued, they had already turned their conversation into a marriage plan, and the couple flew to a chapel in Las Vegas to tie the knot.
Beverly D’Angelo did not care about her ex-husband Salviati’s royal title. “I certainly was not somebody who went around saying, ‘I’m a duchess.’ It was irrelevant to me,” She told PEOPLE, adding that she considers Salviati her “soulmate” then and now.

No, no, not an actor.’ And I said, ‘I really love him and we’re talking about having kids and he thinks it’s crazy that I’m married and now I’m thinking it is too.‘”

Lorenzo Salviati, according to the actress, continued to protest from the beginning. “He went, ‘Oh, that’s ridiculous. Who thinks this is crazy, this perfect relationship? Who is this actor?’ I said, ‘Well, it’s Al Pacino.’ He goes, ‘Al Pacino, he’s fantastic. I love him. We divorce!‘” The two had an amicable, uncontested divorce.
After Lorenzo Salviati and D’Angelo’s marriage came to an end, the actress when on to have twins Anton James Pacino and Olivia Pacino in 2001 when she was 49. Shortly after that, she and Pacino called their relationship a quit and went their separate ways. “The greatest gift that Al ever gave me was to make me a mother,” says D’Angelo looking back fondly on her time together with Pacino but she still considers Lorenzo Salviati her soul mate.
