Lulu Simon is the only daughter but not the only child of her parents. She has two biological brothers and one half-brother. Her brothers are Adrian Edward Simon and Gabriel Elijah Simon. Lulu Simon is a singer-songwriter just like her parents Paul Simon and Edie Brickell. Lulu said she “just love being able to make music. I feel so lucky that music is a part of my life and that I am able to create and express myself in this way. I really don’t know what I would do if I couldn’t. Writing songs to express yourself and emote is like keeping a diary on steroids.”
Lulu Simon describes her sound as “sensitive pop”, saying, “because there are all of those classic sonic elements of pop, combined with my more foundational elements of a singer-songwriter.” Lulu opened up about growing up in a musical family. She told PEOPLE: “We used to make up songs as we were walking through Central Park, or in the bath.”

“We would always just write music.” She disclosed that having to witness her siblings and parents create “was inspiring,” she continues, “in that it was like, ‘Oh, I don’t just have to listen to music — if I want it, I could do it too. Because I’m watching all these people around me do it.” Lulu took piano lessons from a young age but she taught herself how to play the guitar in middle school.
When Lulu Simon started writing her own songs, she did it in secret. “I literally used to go into my bathroom and turn the water on and play guitar and sing very quietly,” she revealed to PEOPLE. “I wasn’t ready for people in my family to know that I was making music … because I wanted to be sure of what I was doing.”
Lulu eventually started out playing open mic nights as an acoustic singer-songwriter. Her love for pop music increased. “It was difficult at first because I was like, I don’t know how the type of music I write naturally would translate into pop. I didn’t know if that was possible.” She is inspired by the likes of pop princesses Jepsen and Petras.
Lulu has released several songs as a solo artist. She released the EP Muscle Memory, which consists of five tracks. In 2019, she released her self-titled EP with six tracks, including “Like I Should.” She is known for hit songs including “How to Be Alone”, “All In”, “Strangers”, and “I Wanna Break Ur Heart.” Lulu has made it known that her parents have both been very supportive of her career.
Although her parents are both involved in the music industry, Lulu said “It’s really important to me that I find my own way in the music industry. Both of my parents are extremely supportive and would be there for me should I ever need advice, but I’m enjoying figuring things out for myself, and I feel that’s something I need to do.”
