Muddy Waters is an American born as McKinley Morganfield in Issaquena County, Mississippi, U.S but he grew up on Stovall Plantation near Clarksdale, Mississippi. He was born on April 4, 1913. However, his place and date of birth are not conclusively known.

Muddy Waters was at the age of 17 years when he played the guitar and the harmonica, emulating the local blues artists Son House and Robert Johnson. He was raised by his grandmother, Della Grant, who used to call him Muddy, a moniker earned as a result of his tendency for playing in muddy water.

Muddy Waters took the moniker Muddy Waters as his own. He met one of America’s greatest folklorists and ethnomusicologists called Alan Lomax in 1941 and recorded his music. He traveled to Chicago to become a full-time professional musician.

Muddy Waters recorded songs for Mayo Williams at Columbia Records, with an old-fashioned combo consisting of clarinet, saxophone, and piano in the year 1946. He performed at the Newport Jazz Festival in 1960, which was recorded. He released it as his first live album, At Newport 1960.

Waters has worked hard to attain his spot in the entertainment industry. Mabel Berry’s husband, Muddy Waters died in his sleep at his home in Westmont, Illinois. He died on April 30, 1983, from cancer-related complications. He had heart failure. He was 70 years old when he died.
