María Elvira Murillo was the second wife of former Mexican drug lord Miguel Ángel Félix Gallardo, commonly referred to by his aliases El Jefe de Jefes and El Padrino. María Elvira Murillo’s husband Félix Gallardo is a convicted Mexican drug lord. He was one of the founders of the Guadalajara Cartel in the 1970s.
In the second season of Narcos: Mexico, the show continued María Elvira’s wife, Felix Gallardo’s (played by Diego Luna) story as his grip on his drug empire loosened. Throughout the series, he was seen attempting to win back his wife, Maria Elvira Murillo (played by Fernanda Urrejola).
While initially supportive of her husband’s small-scale drug dealing with Rafael Caro Quintero, María Elvira Murillo becomes dissatisfied after her husband devotes his entire life to running his cartel and begins having extramarital affairs with several women, lavishing them with expensive gifts. She tried to persuade her husband to run his cartel from Sinaloa, but he refused and coldly told her that she was no longer needed. The couple later divorces, and she returns to Sinaloa with her children.
Félix fled to Sinaloa after surviving a Gulf cartel assassination attempt, but she refused to reunite with him. He later informed her that if he failed to deliver a shipment of 70 tonnes of cocaine for Hélmer Herrera, she and their children would face Colombian retaliation. She later reconnected with Félix Gallardo after he successfully rigged the 1988 elections in favor of the PRI, and they both attended Carlos Salinas’ success party.
María Elvira Murillo did, however, confront her ex-husband violently after learning of his role in the tragic murder of Guadalupe Leija Serrano and her two children. She scolds him for his cruelty and stabs him with a knife as he tries to calm her down. This prompted Félix to divorce her and return to Guadalajara.

After watching the TV show, some fans are curious to know whether the Maria Elvira character was based on a real woman or not. Very little is known about Miguel Ángel Félix Gallardo’s wife, which means much of her depiction in the series is fictional.
However, according to the website capitalcoahuila, in real life, María Elvira Murillo is identified as the second wife of Félix Gallardo, who first married a very young woman, but died of leukemia.
According to them too, the Public Property Registry of Jalisco, María Elvira Murillo was one of the owners of the Delia Real Estate, whose assets were seized by the PGR, after the capture of the leader of the Guadalajara Cartel.
In addition, according to intelligence reports from the United States, María Elvira helped Félix Gallardo to make his way among Jalisco’s high society. The governor of Sinaloa was invited to the wedding of both, who was also linked by the authorities with the drug trafficker.
According to The Sun, David F Marley states in his book on Mexican Cartels that Maria had 17 children with Gallardo.
In 2011, María Elvira Murillo and her children said in an open letter that he was not getting his proper medication and was being mistreated in jail.
María Elvira murillo’s Husband, Félix Gallardo
María Elvira Murillo’s Husband, Miguel Ángel Félix Gallardo is one of Mexico’s most powerful drug traffickers. He is also credited with establishing the modern Mexican drug trade. Gallardo, also known as El Padrino (The Godfather), founded the Guadalajara Cartel in the 1980s. He was in charge of almost all drug trafficking in Mexico and the corridors along the US border.
Gallardo is currently serving a 37-year sentence in a Mexican maximum-security prison. In 1989, he was convicted of the murder of DEA Agent Enrique Camarena. Gallardo remained one of Mexico’s most powerful drug traffickers after his incarceration.
He was transferred to the Altiplano maximum-security prison in the 1990s. He was imprisoned in an 8 by a 14-foot cell that he was not permitted to leave. Gallardo began to complain about the jail’s poor living conditions as he grew older, and he began the appeals process to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest.
In December 2014 María Elvira Murillo’s Husband was transferred to a medium-security prison in Guadalajara due to his declining health, and in February 2019 his request for house arrest was denied. As of 2020, and at 74 years old, Gallardo is still in jail for his many crimes.
