Chris and Marilyn’s marriage certificate showed that Chris’s father was John Ellis, a police officer, and Marilyn’s father was Arthur Melbourne Hooper, a postal and telegraph officer. Thomas John Ellis was born on November 17, 1978, in Cardiff, the son of Marilyn Jean (née Hooper) and Christopher John Ellis. He has three sisters, including his twin. Baptist ministers are his father, uncle, and one of his sisters.
His family relocated to England after his birth, and he grew up in Sheffield, South Yorkshire. He went to High Storrs School in Sheffield and played the French horn in the City of Sheffield Youth Orchestra. He later earned a BA in Dramatic Studies from Glasgow’s Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama.
In 2006, Ellis married actress Tamzin Outhwaite, with whom he has two children. They divorced in April 2014. He married American screenwriter Meaghan Oppenheimer in 2019. Ellis now has three children in total, they are Nora Ellis, Marnie Mae Ellis, Florence Elsie Ellis
Marilyn Jean Hooper’s son, Ellis was cast as Lucifer Morningstar in the Fox series Lucifer in February 2015, based on the DC Comics publication and character of the same name, which premiered on January 25, 2016. The show was later transferred to Netflix.
On June 23, 2020, Netflix announced that the show had been renewed for a sixth and final season. He played Lucifer again in The CW’s The Flash episode of the Arrowverse crossover “Crisis on Infinite Earths.” In 2021, he won the Tell-Tale TV Award for Favorite Actor in a Cable or Streaming Sci-fi/Fantasy/Horror Series.
