Mark Novak is the son of iconic singer Shirley Bassey. Mark Novak’s mother is the Goldfinger crooner who had her first UK No1 As I Love You – the first ever by a Welsh artist – way back in January 1959. According to Dailymail, Mark Novak is a businessman who lives in Andalusia. The outlet also revealed he was estranged from his mother Shirley for a time after battling a drug addiction. However, in an interview with The Guardian, Shirley Bassey revealed he has a good relationship with her son Mark- She said- “Fantastic. I even get on very well with my son, Mark.” But the papers say you don’t? “But I do. We have long conversations on the phone. I won’t say it was always good, but we are now settled. We have a good relationship.“

Mark Novak’s daughter Tatjana Novak-Kimsey

Mark is the father of Tatjana Novak-Kimsey. He had his daughter with former model Lisa Kimsey. However, the granddaughter of Dame Shirley Bassey disappeared from her life before she was two. The estrangement was a result of an acrimonious split between Tatjana’s parents, Mark and Lisa Kimsey, Dailymail reported.

‘When I see my grandmother on television I don’t think “there’s my Nana”, I think there’s Shirley Bassey,’ says Tatjana to Dailymail when the then 18-year-old appeared on X Factor. ‘I admire her, but there’s no emotional connection. It’s very sad that I’ve grown up not knowing this remarkable person.’

Tatjana insists she tried to keep her connection to Dame Shirley a secret from the X Factor producers – and then broke down when they discovered her famous gran. She feared the star would think she was trying to cash in on her fame. “I keep worrying I have upset her and blown any chance of ever getting to know her again,” Mark Novak’s daughter, Tatjana revealed. She flew from her home in Spain to take part in the Birmingham heats.

Former model Lisa raised her daughter, who had no contact with her father until later. Dailymail revealed Mark Novak emailed his daughter Tatjana Novak-Kimsey out of the blue via Facebook, and they have started meeting occasionally to try to get to know each other again.

‘He sent me a message saying: “Hello Tatjana, it’s your father. I’ve been looking at your pictures and you’ve grown so much. It would be lovely to meet you,” ‘ says Tatjana, who was very happy about the contact. ‘It’s still early days and it all feels a bit awkward, because I grew up not knowing him. But we have met a couple of times at his house and I’ve met his fiancee.’

She continued- “He’s told me he feels very bad that he wasn’t around for me when I was growing up, but we haven’t talked in detail about the reasons why. I like him, but it’s too early to say if I can learn to love him again.“

The death of Mark Novak’s sister Samantha

Mark Novak’s elder sister Samantha Bassey was found face-down in the River Avon near the 250ft Clifton Suspension Bridge and died accidentally in August 1985. She was found nine days after leaving a pub where she had been drinking. Police concluded that she ‘just fell in’ and it was a tragic accident. Shirley Bassey has always maintained that the death of her daughter was not a suicide. The ordeal of losing her daughter caused the singer to temporarily lose her voice.

On 24 March 2010, Avon and Somerset Police confirmed they were undertaking fresh inquiries into the death of Samantha and specifically claimed that the convicted killer Michael Moffat was involved in her death. However, in October 2010 it was reported that the investigation had come to an end, concluding that there was “no evidence of any criminal act involved” in Novak’s death. The ordeal of losing her daughter caused Bassey to temporarily lose her voice.
