Thomas Sowell has been married twice. His first marriage was with Alma Jean Parr and his second marriage is with his current wife Mary Ash. The lover tied the knot in 1980 after the renounced economist’s marriage with Parr came to an end in 1975. Thomas Sowell is a father of two children, John Sowell and Lorraine Sowell. However, it is not clear whether the children were from his first marriage with Parr, from his marriage with Mary Ash, or both.

Thomas Sowell was married to Alma Parr for 11 years, and Mary Ash for 43 years. Sowell’s longest marriage has been 43 years to Mary Ash. Though her husband has been very active in the spotlight, Ash on the other hand has been very private about her life. However, per Encyclopedia, Ash is an attorney, however, there is no indication whether she is a white or black woman.
The social commentator does talk much about his wife in line of commentary, however, he mentioned his wife in a 2007 column while describing an interesting encounter the two had. Thomas Sowell talked of how he and his wife Mary Ash met “Navajo youngsters” who didn’t know where Pittsburgh or Philadelphia was.
In that column, he expressed concern that the boys’ education “does not equip them with the knowledge that is needed to bring their natural abilities to the point where they are capable of doing all sorts of things in all sorts of places.”

As said earlier, Mary Ash has been very private about her life. Her husband on the other hand has been very active and has written and commented on various topics. In his latest book, Charter Schools and Their Enemies (2020), Sowell compares the educational outcomes of school children educated at charter schools with those at conventional public schools.
In the book, the author argues that many U.S. schools are failing the young learner; contends that “indoctrination” has taken the place of proper education; and argues that teachers’ unions have promoted harmful education policies.
Sowell is also the author of The Einstein Syndrome: Bright Children Who Talk Late, a book that followed his Late-Talking Children book where he discusses a condition he termed Einstein syndrome. He discussed his son John Sowell who was two years old and still nearly two years away from talking. He revealed Late-talking children can be at any intellectual level, from the lowest to the highest.
The renowned commentator also said that he was a Marxist “during the decade of my 20s”; one of his earliest professional publications was a sympathetic examination of Marxist thought vs. Marxist–Leninist practice. Sowell revealed that his experience working as a federal government intern during the summer of 1960 changed everything and caused him to reject Marxian economics in favor of free market economic theory according to Peoplepill.
