His father is an American actor, comedian, writer, and producer while his mother is a Swedish actress, art collector, and auctioneer.
Mattias Paulin Ferrell has two brothers, Magnus Paulin Ferrell, and Axel Paulin Ferrell. His older brother Magnus was born on March 7, 2004, and his younger brother Axel was born on January 23, 2010. Mattias and his brother Magnus were given Swedish names as their mother Viveca Paulin is Swedish. Mattias’ father has said that he doesn’t know the English translation of Mattias’ Swedish name.
Will Ferrell made this known when he appeared on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno in 2007. “Mattias means ‘one who eats fire. He admitted, “No, I don’t know what it means. It’s a very popular name in Sweden.” However, the name Mattias actually means “gift of God.” Mattias is the grandson of Betty Kay (née Overman; born 1940) and Roy Lee Ferrell Jr. (born 1941).
Betty Kay Overman was a teacher who taught at Old Mill School elementary school and Santa Ana College, and Roy Lee Ferrell Jr. played saxophone and keyboards for the Righteous Brothers. However, when Mattias was born and arrived in the family, his older brother Magnus had a rough time getting used to his little brother joining the family and sometimes he takes his anger out on their pets. Their father Will Ferrell said of Magnus: “He was nice at first [to Mattias]. He hasn’t tried to harm the baby, so that’s good.”
Will added that: “We have three dogs and he doesn’t have a lot of power, but I think he takes it out on the dogs on purpose because he was the king and now he’s got this little brother. When the dog tries to take food from him, we tell him to say, ‘No, Nuby,’ and one time I was in the other room and I heard, ‘Nuby, I say NO!!!’ So I think he’s acting out. Other than that, I think he’s excited.”
Will Ferrell was asked if his older son Magnus was jealous of the attention Mattias was receiving and he said that Magnus doesn’t like it “when you hold the baby, look at or talk to the baby…so no, I don’t think he’s jealous.” However, Mattias and his siblings share a strong bond and are close to each other. Their father, Will confessed that his sons seem to have inherited his sense of humor.
Will Ferrell told Parade that his children are “funny in their own ways.” He added that: “They kind of have their own senses of humor. It’s fun to see them make their friends laugh. Very similar to me, they’re good kids at school and yet they like to try to be funny.” There is no information about Mattias’ academic background.
Mattias Paulin Ferrell is an actor who appeared in Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues (2013) as Sea World Kid alongside his father Will Ferrell and other stars. Mattias is unmarried and single.
