Melva White is the daughter of singer and songwriter Barry White from his first marriage to a woman identified as just Mary in his autobiography and Betty Smith by some online sources. Melva was born in the United States but her date of birth is unknown at the moment. Her parents had four children, which means that Melva has three siblings.

Melva White’s siblings are Barry White Jr., Darryl White, and Nina White. Her stepmother is popular American singer Glodean Beverly White. Melva’s father had four children with her stepmother Glodean and had a daughter with Gurtha Allen, out of wedlock. Her paternal grandparents were Melvin A. White and Sadie Marie Carter.

Melva was raised away from the spotlight which is why much is unknown about her childhood. Her educational qualifications and background are unknown. Despite her father’s fame, Melva White has lived her life out of the public eye. Her father Barry White born Barry Eugene Carter found success as a singer, songwriter, record producer, and composer. He was the producer of the female vocal trio Love Unlimited. He became known for his two biggest hits: “Can’t Get Enough of Your Love, Babe” and “You’re the First, the Last, My Everything”.

Barry White was nicknamed “The Walrus of Love” in the UK and in the US, “Dr. Love”, “Mr. Love”, “Prince of Pillow Talk”, “Ambassador of Romance”, “King of Disco” “The Maestro” or “Guru of Love”. His autobiography, Love Unlimited, was published in 1999 by Broadway Books. He was also a voice actor. He did voice-over work for television and movies.

Melva White’s well-known father Barry White voiced the character Brother Bear in the film Coonskin (1975). His voice can be heard in Apple’s first iBook commercial. He appeared as himself in two episodes of The Simpsons. He also made three guest appearances on the comedy-drama television series Ally McBeal. He appeared on Late Night with Conan O’Brien, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Late Show with David Letterman, and Soul Train.

What Happened To Melva White’s Father?

Melva White’s father Barry White died after suffering cardiac arrest. He died at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, on July 4, 2003, at age 58. His manager Ned Shankman said: “It was just a series of things brought on by his high blood pressure, which triggered kidney failure and a mild stroke and ongoing low-grade infections that they just couldn’t get on top of”.

“He had a most unique voice, a most unique appearance,” Ned Shankman added. “He was just a very unique guy.” Barry White suffered from health problems before his death. He was a heavy smoker, reportedly smoking approximately 150 cigarettes a day. He was once hospitalized after having a stroke due to high blood pressure and was in a coma for four days but was discharged a week after coming out of it.

In 2002, Barry White was hospitalized with kidney failure attributed to chronic high blood pressure. At the time, he was also believed to be diabetic. While undergoing dialysis and awaiting a kidney transplant in May 2003, he suffered a severe stroke. He also suffered multiple seizures in his last few weeks. His unstable health prevented him from receiving a new kidney and he died.

Barry White loved music and worked very hard. “I sleep music, I eat music, I’m never without it, I’m never without music, that’s my first lady,” he once told a reporter. He said: “I am passionate, I am romantic, I am thrilled throughout my soul to be creating music”. In 2004, he was posthumously inducted into the Dance Music Hall of Fame, and in 2013, he was posthumously awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
