Who Is Sirhan Sirhan’s Brother, Munir Sirhan?

Munir Sirhan happens to be the brother of a convict. Munir is the son of Mary Muzhea and Bishara Sirhan. His exact date of birth is unknown. He was born into an Arab Palestinian Christian family. There isn’t much information about Munir’s relatives. However, growing up, he lost one of his siblings.

Unfortunately, Munir Sirhan’s brother died after he was run over by a military vehicle that was swerving to evade gunfire. His brother Sirhan Bishara Sirhan was welcomed into the world on March 19, 1944, in Jerusalem, Mandatory Palestine. Munir’s family had emigrated to the U.S., moving briefly to New York and then to California.

Munir Sirhan’s brother Sirhan Sirhan returned alone to the Middle East shortly after the family’s move to California. In the 1950s, the family who were Arab Palestinian Christians had been living in Jerusalem. Because of where they lived, they experienced frequent upheaval in the aftermath of the 1948 Arab-Israeli war.

Munir Sirhan said: “[There was] a lot of hecticness. A lot of air raid sirens going off every other day. I remember going to my best friend’s home, and they’re telling me he’s not coming to school today and wondering why, and then the next day you find out he got blown away from a bomb.”

Speaking of the family living in the United States, Munir Sirhan said: “Ya know, we got along, we made friends, it was OK, but you couldn’t be an Arab here, you couldn’t be an Arab at all.” His mother Mary was employed in the nursery at Westminster Presbyterian Church but his father returned to the old country, unable to adapt to life in the United States.

Munir Sirhan attended a local public school and got paper routes for the Pasadena Star-News. Munir who reportedly had bad eyesight, dropped out of school after 6th grade. He watched a lot of TV: “Felix the Cat,” “The Three Stooges” and “Yogi Bear.” He loved music and really loved song parodist Stan Freberg, the Weird Al Yankovic of the 1950s.

“I adored that guy,” Munir said. “I think that’s what I would have been, some sort of comedy songwriter.” Munir Sirhan did odd jobs. He worked at F.C. Nash department store in Pasadena as a stock clerk. He is said to have never married but it is unknown if he has been involved in any romantic relationships.

Munir Sirhan leads a solitary life. He keeps his life private. He comes into the spotlight because of his brother Sirhan Sirhan. He has appeared as himself in RFK Must Die: The Assassination of Bobby Kennedy and Bobby Kennedy for President.

What Happened To Munir Sirhan’s Brother, Sirhan Sirhan?

Munir Sirhan’s brother Sirhan Sirhan was convicted of assassinating presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy. On June 5, 1968, Sirhan shot Robert in the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles, shortly after Robert had finished addressing supporters, following his victory in California’s Democratic presidential primary.

Five other individuals at the event were also shot but they all recovered. As for Robert F. Kennedy, he died at Good Samaritan Hospital. Sirhan was captured at the scene with a .22-caliber handgun in his hand. He was convicted of killing Robert and wounding five other people, per CNN.

Sirhan was sentenced to death, but that sentence was commuted to life. He is serving a life sentence at the Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility in San Diego County, California. Munir has said that his brother Sirhan “was just a fun-loving guy. He liked life, and he liked family.”

He added: “If anybody was trying to do me any harm, he’d go up and confront the people and tell’em, ‘Listen, this is my little brother. I don’t want anybody hurting him.’”

“You know what? I just want to hug him,” Munir said. “Hug him and tell him, ‘Welcome home.’ I’d just like to see him reading a book on that chair like he used to when we were kids, and just walk around the block with him. I’d be happy.” Munir has waited for his brother to return to their home in Pasadena.

Munir Sirhan and his brother Sirhan Sirhan are the only ones left of their parents’ six children. Munir said: “Unfortunately, yeah, Sirhan and I. It’d be pretty rough without him, even if it’s just letter-writing.” Munir Sirhan revealed that his brother Sirhan had asked him for a gun some time ago.

“He asked me if I could get a gun. Sirhan used to belong to the ROTC at Muir, I said, ‘sure, I’ll ask,’” Munir recalls. “At work I asked a fellow employee and he said, ‘Yeah, I have a friend that has one he wants to sell.’”

“I had no idea it would have this kind of an outcome, no idea at all,” Munir says. “You start looking inward to see if you were part of the blame for this thing happening.” Munir went to work and it was there that he found out his brother committed murder.

“The TV was on loud and the room was full and usually it’s not that full unless it’s somebody’s birthday, and I’m thinking it’s too early to celebrate a birthday,” he recalls. “I walked over and put coins in the coffee machine and took a couple sips of my coffee and looked at the screen.”

“It looked like Sirhan. I said, ‘Whoa!’ Picture came on again and I said, ‘That’s my brother.’” After finding out his brother was being accused of shooting Robert F. Kennedy, he “thought when this thing happened, they got the wrong guy.”

Munir and his mother went to see his brother but his brother Sirhan said he didn’t remember anything about the shooting. “Oh, no, no, no,” Munir said. “Mother asked him, ‘What happened?’ He said, ‘I don’t remember. I don’t know. All I know is my leg hurts,’ and I think it was one of his thumbs that were hurting. He specifically said, ‘I don’t remember what happened.’”
