Nina Olivette who is also known as Hildegarde Lachmann was born on May 9, 1907, in New York, New York, U.S. Some sources have cited that she was born Elizabeth Margaret Veronica Lachmann. She was the daughter of Edgar Spencer Lachmann and Kazimera Prajinska. Her mother was a ballet dancer in her native Poland. After she relocated to the United States, she performed in vaudeville.

Nina’s father was reportedly a cigar manufacturer in his native Germany and in the United States, he became a vice-president in Charles M. Schwab’s steel company. Whether Nina has any siblings or not is unknown. She was still a child at the time her mother took her to the stage as a novelty during a ballet performance. She did the four dance steps she knew and the splits.

Nina became part of her mother’s troupe in ballet performances. She and her family moved to Omaha, Nebraska. Her mother put together a vaudeville act that featured her Nina and a local girl named Violet Carlson and they took to the stage in Chicago. During a performance, Nina injured her leg, and that prevented her from maintaining the balance needed to be a ballerina.

Nina then turned to combining dancing with comedy. She worked with Violet Carlson in a vaudeville act billed as the Lachmann Sisters. At age 12, Nina was recruited by the producers of the Greenwich Village Follies, and soon she was appearing on Broadway. On Broadway, she appeared in Music Box Revue, Queen High, George White’s Scandals, The Sweetest Little Devil, Captain Jinks, and Hold Everything!

Nina Olivette made her film debut in Queen High (1930). She was uncredited for her appearance in the film Why Sailors Leave Home. She appeared in the films What a Night!, The Pretty Pretender and Boys Will Be Girls. She appeared in an episode of Musical Comedy Time. In 1954, she was a stage sensation in Twin Beds. She was in an episode of The Phil Silvers Show.

In 1958, Nina made her final stage appearance with a leading role in a revival of The Matchmaker. She later performed as a vocalist. She was also a designer. She designed women’s fashion accessories, such as handbags, scarves, and stoles. Her products made her “a particularly favorite designer with stage people and television stars”.

Nina Olivette was a designer for Your Show of Shows on television in the early 1950s. Following her retirement from acting, she worked as a representative for a wholesale giftware company. She stayed away from situations that could damage her reputation. She was not involved in any controversies or rumors. She didn’t share much information about her personal life with the public.

Eventually, her husband Harry died on July 19, 1984, at age 82, in New York City, U.S.
