Patrick Newton was born on 30 November 1915, in Stafford County, Virginia, USA. Brodie Newton was his father and Nellie Ashton Jones Newton was his mother. He was the brother of Pricie Reeves Marshall, Charles Mack Newton, Elizabeth Schenemann, Custalow, Geneva Marriott, Elsie Hamlin, Chesterfield Newton, Stuart Ashton Newton, Brodie Lee Newton, Gusty Jackson Newton, Lawrence Nelson Newton, and Raymond David Newton.
Much is unknown about Patrick Newton’s early life and education. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was an auto mechanic. He met his future wife Evelyn Marie Smith (1921–1985) but how they met is unknown. Patrick fell in love with Evelyn and decided to make her his wife. He married Evelyn on 19 August 1939, in Fredericksburg, Virginia. Their marriage was blessed with two children.
Patrick and his wife Evelyn’s children are Jerry Newton and Carson Wayne Newton. The family moved near Newark, Ohio. Patrick and Evelyn’s younger son Wayne suffered from bronchial asthma and due to his condition, the family moved to Phoenix, Arizona, in the 1950s. “If you want this kid to live, you’d better get him out of this climate,” the doctors said to Patrick and Evelyn per their son Wayne.
Patrick worked two jobs in Phoenix. He was an auto mechanic and then he worked at AiResearch. Patrick’s children Jerry Newton and Wayne Newton both found an interest in music from an early age. After the family moved to Phoenix, Jerry and Wayne performed in a local television talent show Lew King Rangers, and won. Eventually, Patrick’s sons became part of a two-week contract to perform in Las Vegas at the Flamingo after a Las Vegas booking agent spotted them performing.
At the time, Wayne Newton was a 15-year-old. He said of what Las Vegas was like for him as a 15-year-old: “Well, it was wild because I, of course, had never been to Las Vegas. I had been raised pretty much in Phoenix. I went to Phoenix at the age of 8 from Virginia. I went to school in Phoenix – Emerson grade school and North Phoenix High School. I went to Vegas two weeks before my junior year was finished in Phoenix.”

“And I thought the Flamingo, for example, would just be, like, a big flamingo standing there and the elevators are going up the legs. I had no touch of reality of what Las Vegas was about.” Wayne added: “And then when we got hit with the six shows a night, six nights a week for a year, that’s pretty much all you get a chance to do – eat, sleep, and work, you know?”
“I think my brother and I made $500 a week, and $180 of that went to the musicians’ union because we were from out of town. So we spent the rest of it on the motel where we stayed, and stuff to eat and what was left of it we sent home to Mom and Dad in Phoenix.” Wayne Newton said of what his father Patrick and mother Evelyn thought of their young children living in Las Vegas:
“Well, I really don’t think they thought it was gonna last. My dad worked actually two jobs in Phoenix. He was an auto mechanic and then he worked at AiResearch, I think it was called.” Wayne revealed that his parents stayed in Phoenix while he and his brother took “a Greyhound and come up to Las Vegas”. The Newton brothers performed as the Rascals in Rhythm in Las Vegas and later on The Jackie Gleason Show and Ozark Jubilee.
Patrick Newton was a very supportive father. He supported his children in their endeavors. He lived a very private life. His sons Jerry Newton and Wayne Newton both became successful. Jerry became a musician, television actor, and club owner while Wayne became a singer and actor who remains one of the best-known entertainers in Las Vegas and has performed there since 1963.

Patrick Newton entered into eternal rest on 13 November 1990, in Harris County, Texas, USA. He was 74 years old when he died. How he died is unknown. He was buried at Palm Memorial Park, Las Vegas, Clark County, Nevada, USA. His wife Evelyn Marie Smith died on 12 June 1985, at age 63. She was also buried at Palm Memorial Park, Las Vegas, Clark County, Nevada, USA.
