Who Is Diana Ross’ Sister?

Rita Ross was born in Vienna, Austria to Ernestine (née Moten; January 27, 1916 – October 9, 1984) and Fred Ross, Sr. (July 4, 1920 – November 21, 2007). Her date of birth is unknown. She grew up with her siblings: Diana Ross, Barbara Ross, Arthur “T-Boy” Ross, Fred Ross, Jr., Wilbert Ross, and Chico Ross.

Originally, Rita Ross’ family lived at 635 Belmont St., in the North End section of Detroit, near Highland Park, Michigan. Her mother got seriously sick after she contracted tuberculosis. Rita and her siblings had to go and live with their maternal grandparents.

The siblings live with Ernestine’s parents, the Reverend (pastor of Bessemer Baptist Church) and Mrs. William Moton in Bessemer, Alabama before returning to Detroit after their mom recovered. In 1958, her family relocated to the working-class Brewster-Douglass Housing Projects settling at St. Antoine Street. She is a Teacher.

Rita Ross run for office in their native Detroit. She was a Candidate for Michigan’s 5th district in the State House of Representatives. She is a self-described community advocate and wants to advocate for infrastructure projects for the city, criminal justice reform, and expanding access to early childhood education.

Rita Ross also wants to push for single-payer health care to ensure every Detroiter has access to quality medical care. Rita is a longtime public servant. She has served on the Michigan Supreme Court Foster Care Review Board for years. According to Rita’s website:

“she champions the city’s infrastructure, criminal justice reform, livable wages, a single-payer healthcare system, and expanding early childhood education. She’s served for almost 20 years on the Michigan Supreme Court Foster Care Review Board and has worked to save senior citizens’ homes from tax foreclosure.”

Rita’s sister Diana Ross took to Twitter to support her sister’s political run. She wrote: ‘My sister Rita Ross is running for State Representative of the 5th District in Detroit, this is her calling. Please support!’

Rita run against six other opponents, including the then-current incumbent, Fred Durhal III. However, she lost the election for State Representative in, the 5th District. Sharing the news on Facebook, she wrote:

‘As many may know by now, I lost the election for State Representative, 5th District. To my family and friends, I thank you all from the bottom of my heart. I love you all for everything you have done. I thank you so much!! I would like to thank all of my campaign workers who put in all the hard work and so many long hours in.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. It has been also a pleasure meeting and working with so many of my supporters. In my heart I have won because of all the wonderful people I have met though out this journey. This journey will continue, just not in Lansing. If anyone need me, I will be there if it’s all possible. I love you all. Thank you again.‘

Rita Ross is a very private person. She doesn’t like to be in the spotlight much. She hasn’t spoken about her love life. She has her own family but prefers to keep their details from the public domain. It is unknown if she is married or not. There is no information about her husband or boyfriend.

Rita Ross hasn’t been involved in any controversies however her sister Diana Ross was arrested for DUI on December 30, 2002, in Tucson, Arizona.
