Information coming in from Obuasi in the Ashanti region indicates that a two-year-old girl has been killed by unknown criminals for ritual purposes.
According to Adom evening news yesterday, the innocent Muslim girl went missing three days ago around 6 pm when the parents were praying in the mosque. Coincidentally, the lights went off around the same time for some minutes.
Upon restoration of power, the little girl was nowhere to be found. A search team found the lifeless girl in the gutters after three days. Her tongue had been severed off suggesting that she was killed for ritual purposes. Her remains have since been buried according to Islamic tradition.
Obuasi police have commenced an investigation into the murder.
Ritual killing is becoming one too many in the country this year. Three months ago, Ghana woke up to the news of the Kasoa ritual murder involving teenagers. This was followed by the recent Kumasi killings where three people were killed in different locations within a week. Then CitizenOne reported the killing of a landlord by his tenant in Amoakrom in the Bia East district of Western North region.
Many have attributed the menace to ritual advertisement on TV of late. Unfortunately National Media Commission has legal backing to regulate media content.
