Ross Bentley is the Love child of Wendy Craig and John Mortimer
According to Telegraph, a few months after Ross’s birth, Penelope Mortimer found out about the relationship, and promptly told Jack Bentley, Craig’s husband. Ross was brought up by his mother and her husband Jack Bentley in exactly the same way as the couple’s biological son, Alaster, but although Jack Bentley knew the identity of Ross’s father, Mortimer did not.
According to Telegraph, Ross Bentley who is now a television producer was told the identity of his father by his mother many years ago but Mortimer did not know about him until 2004 when they meet. He said: “I was really happy. We had a lovely day. It’s great to know you’ve got such a highly talented father and a wonderful actress as a mother.“
Ross who is also an IT consultant met the writer of Rumpole of The Bailey at his cottage near Henley, Oxfordshire and they got to share a father-son moment together.

Jack Bentley was an English trombonist, journalist, and scriptwriter. He played trombone as part of the brass section of Jack Hylton’s Orchestra and Ted Heath’s big band from 1937 until the mid-1950s before becoming the show business editor of the Sunday Mirror newspaper.
Wendy Craig and Jack Bentley first met at a party given by the West End star Bobby Howes. She was more than twenty years his junior. The couple got married in a beautiful wedding ceremony in the presence of their friends, families, and loved ones.
Ross is a married man
Ross Bentley is married to his long-term girlfriend Kate Forster. They got married in February 2005 and his stepbrother Jeremy Mortimer was the best man for the ceremony. The ceremony was held near the couple’s home in Paddington, west London. Ross Bentley and his wife Kate Forster also have a daughter.
Ross’ stepfather Jack Bentley passed away of prostate cancer in Cookham, Berkshire in 1994. His father Mortimer suffered a stroke in October 2008 and also died on 16 January 2009, aged 85. His mother Wendy Craig lives in Cookham in Berkshire. She was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the 2020 New Year Honours for services to drama and charity.
