Ruth Cambridge is the ex-wife of Buddy Esben. Ruth Cambridge’s ex-husband Esben was an American actor and dancer, whose career spanned seven decades. One of his most famous roles was as Jed Clampett in the CBS television sitcom The Beverly Hillbillies; afterward, he starred as the title character in the television detective drama Barnaby Jones.

Buddy Ebsen and his ex-husband, Ruth Cambridge were married for 11 years. She was the first woman Esben took to the altar. They dated for 1 year after getting together in 1932. The couple tied the knot on 10th Jul 1933. 11 years later they divorced in 1945.
The reason behind their divorce was not available to the public. However, the couple’s marriage was blessed with children. They had 2 children, Elizabeth and Alix.
After the collapse of their marriage, in 1945, Ebsen moved on very quickly, that very year he got married to fellow lieutenant Nancy Wolcott. They had four daughters, including Kiki Ebsen, and a son. This marriage, after 39 years, also ended in divorce.
In 1985, Ebsen married his third wife, Dorothy “Dotti” Knott. They had no children. Ruth Cambridge on the other went totally out of the limelight. There isn’t much information about her after their divorce.
However, Ebsen died of respiratory failure at Torrance Memorial Medical Center in Torrance, California, on July 6, 2003, at the age of 95. Upon his death, his body was cremated at Pacific Crest Cemetery in Redondo Beach, California.
Throughout Ebsen‘s life, he had many interests. He became a folk artist and an avid coin collector, co-founding the Beverly Hills Coin Club in 1987 with actor Chris Aable. Ebsen’s collection included many rarities such as a four-dollar gold piece worth $200,000.

The coin was sold in several auctions both before and after his death. As Ebsen entered his nineties, he continued to keep active, and two years before his death, his bestselling novel Kelly’s Quest was published. Ebsen wrote several other books including Polynesian Concept (about sailing), The Other Side of Oz (an autobiography) and Sizzling Cold Case (a mystery based on his Barnaby Jones character).
