Sophie Mae Jason is the daughter of award-winning British actor Sir David John White popularly known by his stage name David Jason. He added: “She was 20 years younger, we were living in different parts of the country, and I was still numb with grief. Yet work kept bringing us together and fondness turned to love.” Gill Hinchcliffe works in the entertainment industry but she works behind the camera. She has worked as an assistant director, location manager, floor manager, and production assistant.

Gill is known for her work in A Touch of Frost, A Bit of a Do, Emmerdale, The Darling Buds of May, Stay Lucky, and Heartbeat, among others. David and Gill got married on November 30, 2005, in a beautiful wedding attended by close family and friends. David said of their wedding ceremony:

“Gill and I were married at the Dorchester Hotel in 2005 on the eve of my knighthood. We’d often spoken about it, but could never come up with a plan that wouldn’t create a fuss. It was the happiest time. Next morning, I arose a married man and went straight off to become a bachelor. Or, at any rate, a knight bachelor. Amazing. A married man, a Sir, and all inside 24 blissful hours.”

David Jason and Gill Hinchcliffe gave birth to Sophie Mae Jason in 2001 when David was 61 years old and Gill was 41 years old. “We didn’t choose her name until after she was born. She’s not named after anyone in either of our families, but we just liked the name and it seemed to suit her perfectly,” David said of daughter Sophie. In an interview, David opened up about what it was like becoming a dad at an old age.

“I suppose the thing that you miss, perhaps, is being able to do all the things a younger father would do with their child. But Sophie is lovely – when she was a baby and a small child, she was so funny.” Although Sophie is not a child anymore, her father David still acts cutely with his daughter. “I still call her ‘the warf’, because she loved Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, but she couldn’t say the ‘D’. Even now, I’ll say, ‘Where’s the warfling?’, and my wife will say, ‘Oh, she’s gone out.'”

David was previously with his long-term girlfriend, Welsh actress Myfanwy Talog before marrying Gill. David and Myfanwy were together until Myfanwy died on 11 March 1995, at age 50, from breast cancer. The two had lived together for eighteen years.

David Jason’s daughter Abi Harris who was born in 1970 was the child David was unaware of. Abi was born from David’s brief relationship with actress Jennifer Hill. David Jason said: “To say it was a surprise to find out I had a daughter from years ago is an understatement.”

“However, on settling with the news, I am delighted that I am now able to get to know Abi and so we meet up when we can. My wife, Gill, and daughter, Sophie, have been very supportive and understanding and have embraced Abi and welcomed her and her young son into her now wider family.” He added: “We hope we are all allowed the privacy to continue our new relationship and get to know each other more and more.”
