That is very true. Most people can’t go a day without receiving a message or a call from these crooks.

Do these things to stay ahead of Mobile Money fraudsters

The best way to defeat a thief is to stay a couple of steps ahead of his or her schemes. And to avoid falling victim to Mobile Money fraudsters, you also have to be a step ahead. Let’s go

Your Mobile Money PIN should Never Be Shared

Try as much as possible to avoid any conversation around your Mobile money pin code especially with strangers. MTN, Vodafone, and other Mobile money providers have made it clear that your pin should not be shared with another especially strangers. They don’t even advise sharing it with your spouse or family member since you don’t know who is a mobile money fraudster and wants to steal from you or who they talk to about your pin.

You should equally be alert whenever you are being asked to activate some network-related codes or processes on your phone and your Mobile Money PIN becomes a part of the processes.

Authorized Customer Agents would invite you to their service centre

One thing you should also know is that MTN or Vodafone or other networks’ customer representatives always insist that you show up at their offices to rectify even the tiniest issue related to your Mobile Money account. While this may sometimes be inconvenient to some people, it is actually a good thing. If you should get a call about your mobile money account, tell the caller you want to show up at the office, the moment the caller insists on doing it on the phone for you, then you should know that is a red light.

Your Mobile money fraudster detection sensors should give you a red light whenever you are dealing with a supposed MTN staff who would rather let you enter sensitive codes over the phone, rather than asking you to go to the nearest service Centre for assistance. This is especially important when it has anything to do with your Mobile Money account.

Lots of Mobile money fraudsters have become adept at social engineering, thus, they can say the right things to get you to believe they are genuine. Be smart and stay ahead.

Don’t entertain calls about strange and Juicy promotions

One of the commonest tricks the MoMo fraudsters have on their fingertip is their fake but juicy promotions approach. All they need to do is entice their victim by claiming they have won items or money in a promo, and as part of the prize redeeming process, they (victim) would have to pay a fee to claim their winnings prize.

If you’re not participating in any promo, ignore any phone calls and text messages claiming that you have won a prize, don’t get greedy. And even when you have genuine tickets to a lottery or any promo, you should know that the company would not ask you to pay any fee before redeeming what is due you. Stay alert and you’ll be alright.

Don’t Authorize all transaction you have not Initiated

These Momo fraudsters sometimes initialize transactions asking for you to authorize payment to them just like the pop-up you get when you are withdrawing money. Make sure you don’t enter your pin or authorize the payment or transaction if you are not aware of it.
