Vincent Womack is the late son of Bobby Womack. Vincent’s father Bobby Womack was an American R&B, jazz, soul, rock and roll, doo-wop, and gospel singer, songwriter, and musician. He was a member of his family musical group the Valentinos (also known as The Womack Brothers) and was also a solo artist. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (2009).

Vincent Womack was born on 1 October 1966, in Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, California, USA. His full name is Vincent Dwayne Womack. He was the son of Robert Dwayne Womack (Bobby Womack; March 4, 1944 – June 27, 2014) and Barbara Campbell (Barbara Cooke; 10 August 1935 – 22 April 2021). His mother was married to singer-songwriter Sam Cooke until his death.

Vincent’s father Bobby Womack and Sam Cooke were friends and Bobby even served as Sam Cooke’s backing guitarist. After Sam died, Bobby married Sam’s widow Barbara Campbell. Vincent was the only child of Bobby and Barbara. He has no biological siblings but half-siblings from both parent’s sides. From his mother’s side, he was the half-brother of Linda, Tracy, and Vincent Cooke.

Vincent (1961–1963) drowned in the family swimming pool. From his father’s side, Vincent Womack was the half-brother of Truth Womack, Bobby Truth Womack, Gina Womack, Jordan Womack, and Cory Womack. Truth Womack died when he was just 4 months old on 2 June 1978, in Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, California, USA. He went into a coma before he died.

Truth Womack was found “wedged between the wall and the bed.” Because of Truth’s death, his father Bobby delved deeper into his drug addiction and blamed himself for Truth’s death. In an interview, he said: “I lost a son which was my fault and the only reason I can talk about it now is because I know what I’m saying. I’m not hiding behind anything.”

Vincent’s other half-brother Bobby Truth was sent to a youth detention center at about 11 or 12 years old after he got involved with gangs. Vincent was the grandson of Naomi Womack and Friendly Womack, both his paternal grandparents. Naomi played the organ for her church choir while Friendly was a steelworker, part-time minister, and musician who played the guitar and also sang gospel.

Vincent Womack killed himself. He committed suicide by a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. He died in the year 1986, at the age of 19–20 years. He was buried at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Glendale, Los Angeles County, California, USA. His father Bobby Womack had battled drug addiction. He once revealed that he started using cocaine in the late 1960s.

Bobby Womack opened up about his frequent drug use in his memoir, Midnight Mover. He told Rolling Stone: “I was really off into the drugs. Blowing as much coke as I could blow. And drinking. And smoking weed and taking pills. Doing that all day, staying up seven, eight days. Me and Sly [Stone] were running partners. He didn’t think about making music; he had a genuine partner.”

“He said, ‘I don’t feel like I’m goofing off, because Bobby Womack’s doing it.’” Bobby Womack died on June 27, 2014, at the age of 70, in Tarzana, California, United States. The cause of his death was undisclosed but he had suffered from a series of health problems which included diabetes, pneumonia, colon cancer, and the early signs of Alzheimer’s disease.

“With the support of many good doctors, my family, and all of my wonderful fans, I will continue to write and perform and bring the good music to the people for as long as I can,” Vincent Womack’s father Bobby Womack told CNN after his diagnosis. He thanked his fans for their prayers and well wishes, adding, “I truly appreciate and can feel your love.”

Bobby Womack was cremated, and his ashes were inurned at the Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Glendale, California, in The Great Mausoleum, Memorial Terrace, Memorial Terrace Columbarium. Vincent’s mother Barbara Campbell died on 22 April 2021, at age 85, in Atlanta, Fulton County, Georgia, USA. The cause of her death is unknown.
