A statement issued and signed at the Ghana Police Service Headquarters in Accra and published in the media on Sunday says that one of the armed robbers involved in the James Town bullion van attack, which led to the death of Constable Emmanuel Osei and one Afua Badu, a trader has been arrested at Kyebi in the Eastern Region of the country.
The statement confirmed that the police at Kyebi, a suburb in the Abuakwa South Municipality of the Eastern Region, have arrested an armed robber suspected to be involved in the deadly bullion van attack.
The suspect, Musa Kamara, 26, who is from Guinea, has been arrested by the police. During his arrest, he reportedly tried to escape but was shot in the knee. The statement indicated that he wasn’t shot dead because more information needed to be gathered from him. He is currently at the Kyebi Government Hospital receiving treatment.
“He could have been shot dead like how they did it to Constable Emmanuel Osei and the poor woman, Afua Badu however, the police need information about the hideout of the other suspects,” the Inspector General of Police, James Oppong Boanu noted.
The police, who have since declared the alleged suspects wanted, later got reports that the hideout of the these robbers is an enclave at Kyebi in the Eastern Region.
According to police intelligence, Musa Kamara has a bother in the person of Suleman Ketah, also 26 years and one Ebenezer Gimah aka Peace, who are said to be on the police wanted list. It is believed that Musa Kamara would lead the police to the hideout of the rest.
At another extreme, the suspects, according to some residents of Kibi, Akyem Tafo, Osiem, Anyinam, Kyebi and surrounding areas, have made life fearful and very scary in those areas. They have expressed concerns about the issue to the police.
Meanwhile, more intelligent police force and CID officers have been deployed to the Akyem Oda Municipality after reports further indicates that some of the suspects are hiding in those areas. The police promised to stop at nothing until they are arrested and are brought to book.
