Who Is George Michael’s Sister, Yioda?

Yioda Panayiotou rose to fame as the sister of George Michael. Yioda was born in 1958 per her brother’s Wikipedia page. She will be celebrating her 65th birthday in 2023. She is the daughter of Kyriacos “Jack” Panayiotou, a restaurateur of Greek Cypriot descent, and Lesley Angold Panayiotou, an English dancer.

Yioda’s father emigrated from Patriki, Cyprus, to England in the 1950s. In addition to her brother George Michael born Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou, Yioda has a sister called Melanie Panayiotou, a hairdresser. Yioda was close to her siblings. Only a few details are known regarding Yioda’s life as a child. She lived a very private life away from the spotlight.

Most details of her life are unknown. Unfortunately, Yioda Panayiotou lost her mother Lesley Angold Panayiotou on 26 February 1997, at age 59. She was diagnosed with Melanoma in 1996. She is buried at Highgate Cemetery West, in London, England.

Yioda Panayiotou Has Lost All Her Siblings

Yioda Panayiotou happens to be the only one of her siblings that is still alive. Her sister Melanie Panayiotou and her brother George Michael are not alive anymore. Both Melanie and George died on Christmas Day but in different years. George died on 25 December 2016, in Goring-on-Thames, England, at age 53.

After George Michael passed away, an autopsy that was conducted led to “inconclusive” results. The Thames Valley police had released a statement saying that George Michael’s death was “unexplained but not suspicious.” Following extensive additional testing, it was discovered that he died from natural causes.

George Michael had been suffering from dilated cardiomyopathy with myocarditis and fatty liver, per the coroner investigating his death. “Enquiries into the death of George Michael have been concluded and the final post mortem report received,” the coroner said in a statement.

“As there is a confirmed natural cause of death, being Dilated Cardiomyopathy with Myocarditis and Fatty Liver, the investigation is being discontinued and there is no need for an inquest or any further enquiries.” George Michael’s funeral was held on 29 March 2017 due to the delay in determining the cause of death.

George Michael was buried at Highgate Cemetery in north London. Exactly three years after George passed away, his sister Melanie Panayiotou also died. She died on 25 December 2019, at age 59. She was found dead in her London home. She died after falling into a diabetic coma from diabetic ketoacidosis.

“Police were called by London Ambulance Service at approximately 19:35hrs on Wednesday, 25 December to reports of the sudden death of a woman, aged in her 50s,” the Police told People. The police said that “the death is not being treated as suspicious by police”. They noted that a “report will be compiled for the Coroner into the circumstances.”

In a statement through their lawyer, Melanie’s family said: “We can confirm that very tragically, Melanie has passed away suddenly. We would simply ask that the family’s privacy be respected at this very sad time.” George Michael is buried on one side of his mother’s grave while Melanie Panayiotou is buried on the other side.
